Psycotic Pineapple: I Wanna Wanna Wanna Wanna Wanna Wanna Wanna Get Rid of You (1979)
We all have particular songs that we'll forever be associated with from the original Wars and for better or worse this probably chief among mine. This is was one of the first 45s I ever bought, exclusively because I saw an ad for it in Trouser Press and I was such a slavish fan of that mag that I thought even advertising in it made you cool, and the disturbing cover art guaranteed that it would not be an easy listen. The gamble paid off with a nugget of nasally Bay Area garage weirdness driven by a tinny, wheezing Farfisa, an abrupt Wild Thing spoken-word breakdown and all 56 "wanna"s (I counted), all packed into a very compact 1:52 so it's over before you have a chance to be annoyed by it and just wanna wanna wanna keep playing it over and over again.
