After a decade in print (1974-’84), Trouser Press magazine went online in 1997. In 2002, the contents of five Trouser Press Record Guides formed the basis of a new site, which relaunched in 2020 as a music portal with features, reviews, interviews, the indexed Trouser Press archive, a fascinating forum board and loads more. We recently started Trouser Press Books.

Named after a Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band song, 'The Trouser Press' was a fanzine created by Ira Robbins, Dave Schulps, and Karen Rose in 1974 that began its life as a sort of British rock collectors magazine, and as the decade progressed, became one of the best American sources for punk, power pop, and new wave...

AWESOME NEWS! The entire run of one of the great rags of my youth has been uploaded for free perusal!! Grabbed it when I could back then, though it was kinda hard to find in Parma, OH.

Torres is the brainchild of 22 year-old Mackenzie Scott. Her self-titled, self-released debut Torres earlier this year piqued my interest with her memorably scorched vocal tones, harrowing subject matter, and arresting loud-soft dynamics. If that sounds like a description of 1990s college rock icons (PJ Harvey, Lisa Germano, etc.) it’s not entirely coincidental. She owes something to that era, and in her best song she sings, ‘I’m writing you from 1991.’

Psycotic Pineapple: I Wanna Wanna Wanna Wanna Wanna Wanna Wanna Get Rid of You (1979)

We all have particular songs that we'll forever be associated with from the original Wars and for better or worse this probably chief among mine.  This is was one of the first 45s I ever bought, exclusively because I saw an ad for it in Trouser Press and I was such a slavish fan of that mag that I thought even advertising in it made you cool, and the disturbing cover art guaranteed that it would not be an easy listen.  The gamble paid off with a nugget of nasally Bay Area garage weirdness driven by a tinny, wheezing Farfisa, an abrupt Wild Thing spoken-word breakdown and all 56 "wanna"s (I counted), all packed into a very compact 1:52 so it's over before you have a chance to be annoyed by it and just wanna wanna wanna keep playing it over and over again.
