Outback Trip - Day 1 - Pt Augusta, Red Hill, Womera - 7 Hrs Driving
The start to our trip was a bit slow, after we all finished Uni we had to scurry to meet up at 2, our original plan, and we still needed to register the car and figure out exactly where we were going. We piled in the loads of food we bought and had very little room for our stuff, so we were packed to the brim in lil red. We left from the Marion Shopping Centre and it took forever in stop and go traffic to get out of Adelaide and to Port Augusta. Our original plan to arrive by 5:30 turned into 8, so we stopped a bit earlier at a campsite in Womera around 11 pm. No one was around so we decided to sneak our car into a spot and set up camp free of charge. We made rice that was left from the previous owners and even managed to shower the next morning before sneaking out of camp at sunrise. We stopped at a lookout and saw the sunrise in front of us with the full moon still visible behind us, and we met a nutty Australian traveler who was camping out in his car by the lookout.
Philippa Rowland interviewed Dan Van Holst Pellekaan, Member for Stuart, Electorate from Kapunda to Northern Territory in early November. He is also Shadow Minister for Regional Development.
