FANS INVESTIGATED AND DISCOVERED THE FULL PLAN TO EXTERMINATE ZHANG ZHEHAN ON 13th AUGUST

On 13th August (the 813 event), a series of bloggers uploaded posts to “dig up Zhang Zhehan’s dark past”: his mother having gone through the “back door” for a slot for him to go to university; sucking up to Japan; doing an inappropriate thing to the mermaid status; sitting on a grave; putting up a fake front; etc. And the highest of them all: Visiting a shrine Yasukuni.

In only 2-3 seconds after a blue-tick blogger/account uploaded the post to count ZZH’s “dark past events”, there had been 200-300 comments from “passers-by” flooding the top comment section, hitting up to thousands of likes, all of them were “trusty and reliable” accounts, with golden ticks. Special things about them: having the same content, unanimously requesting ZZH to get the hell out of the entertainment industry, with their patriotism as the reason why. These comments had led the public to the high of their fury, creating the false “bandwagon effect”.

In only 5-6 short minutes, there were up to 455 bloggers uploading posts to accuse ZZH of everything and anything.

Tracking down a link for a pre-written content team + links of bloggers for “water warriors (clone accounts)” to flood in (reasons why it only took 2-3 seconds for golden-tick accounts to climb to the top of the comment section). These are some examples of the pre-written content:

"ZZH is putting up a fake front, having barely any knowledge, and is fooling the public."

"Our patriotism is the last straw, we're asking ZZH to get the hell out of the entertainment industry."

Telling the history of the shrine Yasukuni, emphasizing its origin and past.

Pushing up dark red Hot Search in a long time, along with having the action to lock/deactivate ZZH’s own account while Guang Dian (The National Radio & Television Administration of China) never released a boycotting document.

=> The whole process created a big wave of accusations against ZZH on 813, erasing him from the industry completely in just 1 day. His fans were caught off guard and did not have enough time to fight back. When they finally investigated and found out the proof of his innocence, their idol had already been pushed out of the industry.

*Note - Explaining terms:

blue ticks: Accounts of businesses, units, or the government on Weibo

golden ticks: Accounts with verified users, (supposedly) not fake/clone accounts on Weibo

water warriors = clone accounts: Usually belong to a company or an artist’s team, used to lead the public to whatever direction of their preference. These accounts can be used to throw dirt at someone or to praise someone by increasing the numbers of followers, likes, votes. etc.

dark red Hot Search: I can’t find the clear explanation for this but overall, I think it’s like, super, super popular search on Weibo.

What do you think of this? A really professionally planned out strategy to drag someone down to the mud in just the span of 1-2 days. I have seen people calling 813 “a murder without a blade” and it is really terrifying.

I do not know who was or were the big brain(s) behind it all but people have managed to disentangle this whole mess and see through this plan. I will continue to translate the other PTFAA and when I'm done, I will create a post to attach all of these links to.

ZHANG ZHEHAN TAKING PICTURES AT THE SHRINE YASUKUNI - THE DISTORTED TRUTH

1. OFFICIAL CHINESE MEDIA’S ATTITUDE TOWARDS YASUKUNI (靖国神社)

CCTV and People’s Daily - two official media agencies of the government - have several times given reports about the Yasukuni shrine, showing that it’s not prohibited to visit the shrine and the surrounding area with the purpose of TRAVELLING and STUDYING HISTORY.

15th August 2013, “News 1 + 1” produced by CCTV13 discussed the Yasukuni shrine, and also stated the opinions that Chinese people should have about this shrine. The news specified that people should be able to understand and tell apart “visit” (be there to look around) and “worship” (be there to pray and show respect). To be able to go into the worship hall of the shrine, you have to make an appointment, no matter who you are, a citizen, a tourist, or even a government official. Outside the worship hall is the memorial area, around the Yasukuni shrine there is also the History Museum Yukushan. CCTV’s reports stated that, to Chinese people, it is encouraged to visit and learn about Yasukuni’s background, for “you will remember history well” (see Pic 1).

In 2017, Global Time (环球网) under the People’s Daily once had an article with the title “Every Chinese person should go to Yasukuni shrine at least once, to see the most filthy souls of Japan.” This article also claimed, Chinese and Korean people were not allowed in for not sharing the same religions (original link attached at the end of the post).

Besides, some other media sites have also put forward pictures relating to the Yasukuni shrine several times before and around the time Zhang Zhehan took pictures on the grounds of this shrine (see Pic 2, 3). Most of them related to the introduction of cherry blossom tourism. Most noticeable:

8th April 2014: People’s Daily Online introduced the Yasukuni shrine as a famous cherry blossom viewing spot in Japan.

The time from 2015 - 2018, photos of the cherry blossom garden in the grounds of Yasukuni had appeared on Dragon TV’s news (newscast of 24th March 2015), on category Literature - Court Culture of the Chinese Court’s website (on 20th November 2017), CCTV4 (newscast of 19th March 2018), CCTV2’s Economic News (on 19th March 2018).

On 31st March 2018: A picture of the front of the Main Hall (worship hall) of the Yasukuni shrine appeared in China’s Daily’s illustrative pictures for the newscast (see Pic 3).

Phoenix TV (Feng Huang Wei Shi) posted a travel report on the cherry blossom season in Japan, the location for filming was confirmed to be at Yasukuni shrine.

2. WHAT DID ZZH DO AT YASUKUNI SHRINE?

Based on the series of pictures that were posted, ZZH’s moving route was re-created on the map of the shrine. We can easily see that this was a predictable flower-watching route of a tourist. All of the locations in ZZH’s photos belonged to the crowded and well-known public flower-viewing area. This area allows photographing and filming, journalists come here to report about the cherry blossom season every year (see Pic 4).

Until now, there is no proof showing that ZZH had gone to the main hall of Yasukuni to worship and pray.

3. DISTORTED DETAILS

❎ Yasukuni is located in a remote area, isolated, there is no other tourist spot around, and it takes 40 minutes to drive here from the main train station. This is a “nowhere land”, with few tourists coming to visit. ZZH was assumed to intentionally look for and visit the shrine (see Pic 5).

☑️ The truth: Yasukuni shrine is located in the centre of Tokyo, near the Royal Palace, opposite Kitanomaru park, with easy access to traffic, it only takes 2 minutes to walk from the main train station. This has been confirmed by tourists who have been here (this can be looked up in articles of the Global Times), but unfortunately, Baidu's positioning system does not show the exact location of the Yasukuni shrine as well as the route leading to this place.

Not every tourist comes here to worship and pray. In the shrine’s grounds, only the main hall and the museum have political and historical significance; besides them, there are also service houses, flower gardens, performing arts stages,... all of them are tourist attractions. Every cherry blossom season, the area around Yasukuni shrine always attracts a high number of tourists coming here to visit and take pictures, to take part in the sakura matsuri festival, and to watch the sumo fights.

ZZH took part in the Chiyoda Cherry Blossom Festival 2018 which took place from 24th March to 4th April, and posted his pictures on 26t March. The festival of 2018 welcomed more than 1.2 million tourists, this was the record number up to that time (see Pic 6), it was definitely not “remote” as the rumours had been spread.

❎ The signs “No entering the shrine except for the purpose of worshipping” stand outside the shrine’s gate, any Chinese person could read and understand it.

☑️ The truth: According to ZZH’s route, one has to go through Nan Men (The Southern Gate) to see this sign. The size of it is also small, standing next to the info board and the shrine’s map. (see Pic 7)

❎ ZZH went in through the Main Gate, and could see Yasukuni shrine’s name.

☑️ ZZH went in through Nan Men (The Southern Gate). This is a small gate lying on Otsuma-dori road, it is the intersection point of two rows of cherry blossoms on Yasukuni-dori road and Otsuma-dori road. This gate doesn’t have a plaque with the shrine’s name, and the other signposts are relatively small. A lot of “netizens” and “passers-by” have based their opinions on these distorted facts to insult ZZH, saying that he had ignored the signs to intentionally step into the shrine (see Pic 8)

❎ The residence behind ZZH is the Main hall - where it worships “the evils”. Even more so, before the rumours broke out, some thought it was the WC of the shrine. The stele in front of the place is engraved with a fascist message (see Pic 9).

☑️ The truth: The residence on the behind is the Saiki, which is an office providing services, with no political purpose or significance. The stele with the Kanji characters WEI WAN SHI KAI TAI PING (Keep Peace In The World) - has been explained here.

👉👉👉 CONCLUSION:

- VISITING Yasukuni shrine, taking part in the festivals and in other travelling, cultural and entertainment activities around the shrine are not banned among Chinese people. It’s also encouraged and open for Chinese people to visit the Yasukuni shrine to learn about history.

- Based on ZZH’s timing and moving route, we can confirm that he was here simply to join the festival. All of the pictures taken are for commemorating beautiful sights.

- The viral rumours on 813 saying ZZH “worships the evils” are completely fabricated and slandered, ungrounded with no evidence. Those who spread these rumours have deliberately tried to blur the lines between the two concepts “visit” and “worship”, taking advantage of search tools to distort the truth and circulate fake news, exploiting patriotism to provoke and mislead the public to harass an individual.

I have maybe like, one post to translate before this series is done. I know we are in a new phase of this whole situation but I still want to finish translating this series. Can’t really leave it unfinished, you know?

So, uh, some updates on ZZH and his mother. I read from a page (but unfortunately they have taken down that one post bc some find the info upsetting) that Uncle Li has been told that the last three months have been difficult and dreadful, to the point that Zhang mama (as ZZH’s fans call her) has several times considered taking her life. You can imagine how bad it has been.

Anyway, Uncle Li has called out Weibo’s CEO by name, Wang Gaofei, on Weibo and no one could even remotely do anything to him. I don’t know if anyone has tried to translate all of Uncle Li's titles into English but in case no one has, I would like to try.

Sorry for the long post (as it is necessary to clear things up) and thanks for still keeping up with me. Let’s keep on hoping and waiting for a better day.

ON ZHANG ZHEHAN BEING ACCUSED OF S*XUALLY HARASSING CO-ACTOR (Ju Jingyi)

I don’t think this is known much among fans in the West but here in Asia, it was made a huge deal and even now, when proof has been found and clarification has been made, some people still think that this is one of many deals that has got him “boycotted or/and cancelled”. So, before I get to translating more well-known matters among the Western fans, I wanna do this first to warm up to translating these kinds of posts. Note that in the original post, they used a lot of slang and I have tried my best to make it clear in English while keeping the original poster’s tone.

ARE THE “ACCUSATIONS” OF ZHANG ZHEHAN HARASSING HIS CO-STAR RELIABLE?

Zhang Zhehan and Ju Jingyi collaborated 2 times: the first time in Legend of Yunxi - filmed in 2017, aired in 2018; the second time in The Blooms at Ruyi Pavilion - filmed in 2019, aired in 2020. From 2017 to early 2021, there was never any information on accusing ZZH of sexually harassing his once co-star, along with the actress never having any criticism towards him, and the two of them even interacted really friendly and comfortably in real life.

From late February - early March 2021 (the time the whole world was preparing to celebrate International Women’s Day and WoH was airing), to the most recent being mid-August when ZZH continuously got accused of many unverified rumours, with the “accusations” of him harassing his once co-star Ju Jingyi kept being brought out and distorted to add insult to injury, tarnishing ZZH’s image.

One of the “proofs” that got used the most often for these accusations of harassment is a behind-the-scenes cut video of Legend of Yunxi when ZZH was holding JJY tightly and pressing into her shoulders. ZZH was immediately deemed as taking advantage of work to “sexually assault”, “harass”, “find her bra strap”.

Firstly, this needs to be affirmed, every action and word here is judged based on their full context. In the behind-the-scenes videos that the producers have released, along with comparing to the official scenes, we can see (video can be found being the first one in the OG post's comment section):

The hugging scene is in the context of standing opposite to each other, the two actors then went into their positions to continue filming the next scene.

His right hand was on JJY’s back, and did not move much or have any “handsy” action.

His left hand was pressing on one place on JJY’s shoulder, not “handsy”.

All of the crews on the set knew what the two were doing and showed no distasteful reaction, even going on putting notes of them feeling comfortable with this action in there.

The second “proof” for the case of ZZH taking advantage of work to harass his co-star was said to be the scene on the bed of The Blooms at Ruyi Pavilion when he “trapped” his co-star and “did not let” her get up.

In the full video, the whole setting can be seen clearly (the second video in the comment section of the OG post:

ZZH backed down 2-3 times to avoid getting too close to his co-star. His actions were pretty slow, bit by bit, because then, he had recently gone through knee surgery. JJY was not in a hurry to get up and out either after the cut signal, but going well along with his speed.

The two actors were discussing with the crews in really fun and enthusiastic manners about their scene, they even joked with each other, the side of the actress showing no discomfort.

=> Therefore, we can see that ZZH never had any inappropriate action, never took advantage of or harassed his co-star in their two collaborations. Furthermore, male-female acting with each other, in both rehearsal and real shooting, always need time to warm up and build up feelings, the director even asked them to massage each other’s ears to create more effects (yeah, this is kinda weird but this was the director’s doing, this can also be found in one of the videos in the comment section). Not to mention, a star in the place of Ju Jingyi (more famous, with more weight to her voice compared to ZZH back then), having no protest, accusation nor avoidance to supposedly harassment and exploitation, but instead happily interacting and continuing to collaborate with ZZH for the second time - impossible.

ZZH’s and JJY’s “mother-daughter relationship”: There was this one scene they filmed that his action was reminding her of her own mother, so he kinda like said that she should just consider this a mother-daughter relationship and she replied “Okay! (Hǎo!)” loudly. Later on, before, like a basketball match of his and she even wished her “mama to have a good match”. And some said she even visited him in the hospital while he had knee surgery but I haven’t searched this up.

(Context - first vid in the comment section) The scene where he hugged her and moved his hand a little on her shoulder was when Qin Wang (his character) gave Yunxi (her character) a small shoulder massage.

It was not one of the main accusations that got brought up during 813 but this piece of wrong information is still spread through ignorant people. So, just in case you guys see some stuff on this, remember that he is not guilty of harassing anyone and especially not Ju Jingyi. Their relationship was so cute and precious, and I hope the recent events haven’t affected it much.

IS ZHANG ZHEHAN PRO-FASCIST OR IS IT JUST A HOAX FROM THE PUBLIC’S DECEIVERS?

August 2021, when netizens were still overwhelmed by the drama series of Zhang Zhehan being “pro-Japan”, a picture which he took in Zhejiang in 2019 was dug up and was labelled as “saluting in Hitler’s way” = worshipping fascism. And with the effort to spark up the rage from the public even more, bloggers even suggested that this picture had been taken at a memorial hall (see Pic 1). This next part is to clarify what’s true and what’s not.

1. Where and when the picture came to exist.

This picture was taken along with several other pictures and they were posted on ZZH’s personal account on 15th December 2019 - one day after season 1 of “Everybody Stand By” show’s final, along with the caption “I’m waiting for you”, a line in the skit “Big Brother”, which he acted in. Besides seeing him taking pictures and celebrating with his friends after his winning, we can understand how much the skit “Big Brother” means to him and his co-actor - who quickly replied with the same line in the comment section (see Pic 2).

2. What building was there in the background?

The monument that had been assumed to be the Memorial Hall of Revolutionary Martyrs was actually Zhejiang Exhibition Hall. This location is 5 kilometres away from the actual Memorial Hall, equivalent to a 1-hour-and-15-minute walk (see Pic 3).

3. Analyze and identify the “rite” that Zhang Zhehan used.

ZZH’s hand movement if put in the context of just the viral picture, it looks more like a taxi-waving action than a saluting action. And to compare the action of a Chinese man, standing on the Chinese land to the standards of German people, American people or overall European people is pretty confusing.

Not only that, an “anti-fan” of ZZH was quick to get on Twitter to send Neil Gaiman this particular picture that compared ZZH’s action to Adolf Hitler. He is the author of the book “The Graveyard Book” which ZZH had introduced to his fans recently and Mr Gaiman had also thanked ZZH for enjoying his works while also hinting that he would watch Word of Honor (Shan He Ling), which he had starred in. Mr Gaiman is a person of Polish-Jewish origin - the people who were once suffered the “massacre” of Nazi Germany (I hope this part of translation is not offensive to anyone as the way of expression might be different in Vietnamese and in English - if any part is so, please tell me to help rephrase it). He had also given his comment against the rumour-spreader (see Pic 4).

All of the contextual aspects (images, people, comments) in this situation were merely to commemorate a past show and character of ZZH, there was no worshipping or saluting anyone. The label “pro-fascist” being placed upon ZZH is an effort to turn white into black, to deceive the public of the bad guys in this story.

I do have some opinions myself on this. First of all, you need to know that in Asia, or particularly in Vietnam (and maybe even in China), rites and symbols of Nazi Germany mean little to us, as they are only talked about in some brief history lessons about Europe in general or about World War II in general. I did not even know that was the salute way of Nazi Germany until I read about ZZH’s situation relating to this topic. And the swastika symbol, I even saw students, in my secondary/high school, in my class, drawing them on their books or dictionaries. They were not fascists, obviously, they only thought it was a weird symbol that could be drawn somewhere for fun. So, this is me explaining why putting an Asian on the scale to judge a European or a German is weird and confusing.

I’m not saying he knew it was a Nazi way to salute, it might just be him re-enacting the action from the skit, as I have seen another post doing an analysis on it. Also, in the comment section of one of the pictures, people have also commented old communist posters (below) with people doing the same exact pose. It could be an action to imply like “keep moving forward” or “to infinity and beyond” even if his arm was not raised all high up.

There are only a few posts left of this series to be translated. However, these posts are pretty long. After this, I might get to translating a person in high place’s opinions about ZZH’s situation. He is pretty determined to get this case carefully examined and judged, with professional process and not just let him be condemned by bloggers, platforms and ignorant passers-by. Sina tried to get his posts taken down, but he threatened them and they had to return the posts to him. So, that was a brief of what I have read today on him. I have mentioned him in one of the posts I uploaded, his name is Li Xuezheng and he is the director of the Golden Shield Film and Television Center under the Central Military Commission's Logistics Support Department.

Has someome like, translated or uploaded the posts on Weibo made by ZZH's fans to fight against the false accusations made against him?

'Cause I have found a bunch (noting that these posts I have found are already translated to Vietnamese bc I'm Vietnamese and I don't speak Chinese) so I kinda want to translate them all to English for everyone here to get to know the whole situation revolving around 813 and ZZH.

I've already been translating a post on a general Cbiz page about discovering a plan to try and exterminate him on 13th August and I want to continue doing the same to the whole collections of these "bài phản hắc" (in Vietnamese), or as I would translate them "posts to fight against accustions" (PTFAA)

And they are all like, logically made to clear his names and not just some random fans trying to faking up someone's innocence. There are proofs and researches going into these posts which really clear up everything in this mess.

THE TRUTH ABOUT SHANGHAI THEATRE ACADEMY ERASING ZHANG ZHEHAN’S NAME FROM RECORD

After the event 813, some bloggers posted about Shanghai Theatre Academy (Shanxi) having erased Zhang Zhehan’s name.

=> The truth: In the list of Shanxi’s students being “current celebrities”, you can’t find ZZH’s name.

But the LIST OF SHANXI’S ALUMNI OF THE CLASS OF 2008 STILL SHOWS ZZH’S NAME. After 2 months, Shanxi never erased his name, nor denied ZZH’s status as an alumnus of the academy. The rumours saying that ZZH entered the academy from the “back door” in the exams and got his name erased by the academy are all fabricated speculation and only dirt being thrown to smear his name.

🏷 Part 2: Comments that underestimated humans’ intelligence

Looking back on all the falsifications bloggers have made about Zhang Zhehan’s participation in a friend’s wedding at the shrine Yasukuni, there were many comments and remarks that truly underestimated the intelligence of people.

1. ZZH IS FLUENT IN JAPANESE?

❎ ZZH was assumed to know Japanese well, having spoken fluently at the wedding using Japanese.

☑️ The actor does not speak Japanese. As a guest invited to a Chinese-Japanese couple’s wedding, ZZH had a speech congratulating and blessing the couple in Chinese and then ended the speech with ONE sentence in Japanese to show his respect to the bride’s side of the family. Video at the scene (attached in the comment section of the OG post) shows that even if it was one line, ZZH still had to use a translation tool (Pic 1).

2. UNCLEAR IDENTITIES: SHOHEI KONDO = TOSHIO MOTOYA?

❎ One of the guests taking part in the wedding was assumed to be the owner of the APA hotel chain, Toshio Motoya, a notorious person in Japan for his xenophobic speeches, and has been listed by bloggers as a member of the right-wing, anti-China.

☑️ However, the person appearing in the picture has been discovered to be Shohei Kondo, the president of the Japanese Club VAV (yeah, I don’t know about this club but there will be a picture about it below), and had not had any political influence before (Pic 2). Comparing the portraits of Toshio Motoya and Shohei Kondo next to each other, to say these two are the same person is to exaggerate against our conscience (Pic 3).

3. THE “TERRIFYING” POLITICAL BACKGROUND OF ZZH’S FRIENDS

❎ The main character of the wedding - the groom, as well as ZZH’s friend - was assumed to be the political clan Koizumi’s descendant. Former Prime Minister Koizumi Junichiro once visited the shrine Yasukuni, which created diplomatic tension with China and Korea.

☑️ This remark was made based on the family emblem of a pair of hawk’s feathers on the ceremonial costume of the groom (Pic 4). However:

The symbol of a pair of hawk’s feathers crossing each other, surrounded by a circle (Maruni Chigai Takanoha) is one of 10 most popular family emblems, belonging to the LINE of hawk’s feathers family emblems. The hawk’s feathers crossing each other is just a feature of the emblem, not everything.

The bride shared that all of the costumes in the wedding were rented, not tailor-designed/tailor-made costumes of the family. This costume looked exactly like the one printed on the service flyers outside the Nogi shrine. This kind of outfit is also very popular in the “Japanese wedding” searches.

The ceremony costumes with similar patterns of family emblems could easily be found on websites, bought, or rented. The Chinese drama “iPartment” once also used the prop which was the costume with the family emblem of hawk’s feathers; even foreigners could wear these costumes with no problem (Pic 5).

Therefore, the groom’s costume was completely normal, with no political meaning, especially did not represent right-wing politicians like the rumours have stated. If one can judge based on the “family emblem” on the groom’s ceremonial outfit and insist that he is the direct descendant of the Koizumi clan, it would be too hasty and ridiculous.

❎ And by the way, speaking of the astonishing level of being “face-blind” and the habit of “recruiting” descendants for the Koizumi clan of bloggers, another friend of ZZH was “honourably” identified as Koizumi Korato, the oldest son of former Prime Minister of Japan.

☑️ This rumour is FALSE. Korato’s pictures are not difficult to be found online, he shares no resemblance to the young man who was in the same frame with ZZH (on both aspects of age and look - Pic 6), many sharp-eyed bloggers still keep on insisting that these two are the same person.

CONCLUSION:

ZZH does not know Japanese, CAN NOT COMMUNICATE USING JAPANESE, much less speaking fluently like bloggers have claimed.

These accounts have INTENTIONALLY DIRECTED people into thinking ZZH is a pro-Japan person by turning white into black, forcing the relationships with famous Japanese politicians on him and his friends, as well as the “anti-China”, “Nazi-worshipping” ideology was put upon Zhang to make him seem like having traitorous ideas.

Some updates:

According to the Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism, CAPA’s red seal was supposed to be used for their internal affairs with member units only, not for public documents. However, this is the 9th time they have used it for a document of reprimand while what is written on the document is “Public announcement…”

A new discovery of a netizen: CAPA’s president, Zhu Kening, is also the Former Director of the Cultural Market Department of the Ministry of Culture and the Former Director of the Cultural Market Development Center of the Ministry of Culture (from different social platforms). He stated: "The two self-disciplined and self-assessment events were both supported and directed by the Department of Arts and the Market Management Department of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism." However, he left some parts out, "were both supported and directed by “the former president” of somewhere". Or were they supported and directed by their own people? So yeah, this guy has some connections with the Ministry of Culture, which explains a lot.

Also, accounts of a person who regularly updates posts questioning CAPA have been disappearing. Sina is such a good buddy of CAPA 🙄
