this is my own au :). it doesn't have a lot of background or an overall name yet, but the basic premise is that humans can fuse (like how the gems do in steven universe)! and this is Mystery, my stan twins fusion. they're a pretty old man 🥰.

also haven't started on redoing Mayford, Stanson or the stan twins fusion (still not sure what to name him! i had "fordlee" but that doesn't seem quite right), so suggestions for those three before i start making them are welcome!!!!!! :)
yapping about my sillies below! 👇
Maystan is a lovely butch gal and she uses she/her while mostly presenting masculinely! she's very teasing and likes to pretend to be lazy when she's guarding her heart and feelings, but under that she's very protective, loving, and insanely creative! she's got... something against authority, though. do NOT tell her what to do because most of your smaller valuables WILL go missing and she will mysteriously end up richer. also very mischievous, but mostly in a cute or teasing way rather than criminal. do not under any circumstances give her black outfits or grappling hooks!!!!!!! her zodiac symbol is Stan's mackeral combined with Mabel's shooting star, and it kinda creates a flying fish!
Fordson is a gender neutral (masculine leaning) insomniac with a hidden penchant for math and science-based mischief! he generally uses he/him but likes dabbling in the occasional they/them as well. they generally present themself as 'tired and nonchalant' and are pretty quiet, but they like company more than being alone. he's quite affectionate to both stan and mabel and isn't afraid of showing that. his anxiety mostly stems from being unsure of his own academics and intelligence, and being unsure of himself in social settings! but they're still pretty blunt, just in a slightly softer tone. his favorite activities are stealing Maystan's and/or Stan's glasses to read, and being domestic/affectionate or teasing with Mabel or Stan! their zodiac symbol is a tree leaf with a star-shaped hole in the middle, because of how much Dipper changes Ford through Fordson! (don't worry, Ford is okay after fusing with Dipper, he just gets a new perspective afterwards and is able to understand his loved ones and himself a little better because of it!)
M is a nonbinary teen (acts/looks similar to 14-15, given Dip & Mab are 13 or so. sticking to canon ages at the moment!) and uses they/them or neutral neopronouns such as xe/xem, ze/zir or ae/aer! they're a pretty bright kid despite being a little attached to social media, but thankfully they still manage to get outside just as often as the twins do. xe makes scrapbooks of cryptids and mysteries, and encounters anomalies on the wayside! xe is a little tanner than the twins, and slightly addicted to xyr own version of mabeljuice (m&m mocktail - it has m&m's and an unfortunate amount of gnome hair! it's... probably okay as long as M doesn't find any smile-dip to add). this ends in them crashing and sleeping wherever, but at least they're sleeping? more than dipper does, but less than mabel, so. 50/50. additionally, through their love of social media, M found out about both therianthropy and furries, and enjoys wearing ears and a tail frequently! (i would say aer main theriotype is likely some kind of wolf or wolf-adjacent mammal, but i bet ae has more than one 'type!) lastly, zir relationship to the stan twins basically stays the same, it's the same love, just not as outwardly intense as mabel's! more inwardly intense, so M may show that through other means :). M's zodiac symbol is kind of like a shooting tree instead of a shooting star, but i'm choosing to interpret it as a firework!

so they're all supposed to look certain ages in relation to eachother, first off. Maystan and Fordson are supposed to look like twins in their 30s/40s, Mystery is 60s/70s, Mayford and Stanson are twins in their 40s/50s, and M looks around 14-16, i'd say.
about Maystan
she's pretty mischievous but is more of a prankster rather than outright mean/rude like Stan is. (arguably, this is why she's funnier than Stan is lol.) she has a bit of a potty mouth, but a lot of her insults become endearments (ex: calling Ford her "gorgeous idiot brusband". Ford mostly objects to brusband because that is NOT a word).
she wears a lot of white and pink! Stan's favorite color is actually pink (my personal headcanon), so when he and Mabel are fused as Maystan, she indulges and there's pink everywhere. just combatted by white, because YES pink is awesome but also Maystan doesn't want to keep blinding people.
her five bracelets represent Dipper, Ford, Stan, Soos, and Wendy! there is one that represents Mabel as well, but M is usually the one that wears it (though i didn't draw that this time). and with time there's no doubt Maystan will make more..... [distant thunder] [lightning strike] [haunted music].
about Fordson
they are, without a doubt, the unhealthiest fusion. Fordson isn't physically healthy, and Dipper and Ford's paranoia can clash at unfortunate times. to combat this, he really pushes himself to check in on/care for his family, because they do they same back! so he comes off as a little clingy/lovestruck at times <3.
his freckles are all in the shape of 5-point stars! to reference Dipper's birthmark :). Fordson has more star freckles on the backs of his knees and scattered around his back as well.
also, Fordson needs glasses just like Ford does, but wearing glasses is incredibly uncomfortable so they usually opt out of seeing properly. when they really do need to see, they steal Maystan's glasses because those are the least uncomfortable (and they like the sound that the beads make).
a smaller detail, but his boots are rainboots! not for any particular reason, i just think it suits him.
about Mystery
first of all, this old man makes me sick (endearingly). they're not truly a fusion, but are instead Stan and Ford, working together, in one mind - hence their pronouns being the plural they. these two have such a strong relationship that they can be stable in a fusion like that, and don't have to completely become one in order to function (they do, sometimes, because that's hot, but i haven't drawn what i think that would look like yet lol).
their physical appearance is, of course, a combination of themselves. five fingers on the right, six fingers on the left!
the left is "Ford's" side, in a sense, so there are scars from the electric shackles on Mystery's left wrist + ankle, and a crucifix scar on their left palm.
the right is Stan's side, which is why they have a mouth scar there (not only representing the trunk incident, but also how Stan couldn't, and then didn't when he had the opportunity, take care of his teeth). the sigil scar from their fight in the 1980's is also on the right side, on the back shoulder.
they both have scarred knuckles, from rough lives of fighting. the gun is on the right side so that they can grab it with their left (Ford's) hand.
TONS of pockets in the inner lining of their coat for stealing and trinkets. boots are sort of pirate inspired, but colored both like Ford's boots and Stan's dress shoes.
the eyebat cane is a parallel to Stan's eightball cane! not very practical for use, more for decoration (but there's a good chance both Mystery and Stan have actual functioning canes to use). it has a lightweight (mostly plastic) top, made to look like an eyebat! from the combination of Stan's taxidermy + crafting + art knowledge and Ford's realism + art + engineering knowledge, it's eerily realistic. (the townsfolk don't like looking at it, so Mystery brings it into town whenever they need to steal something LMAO). i haven't drawn what Mystery's actual cane would look like yet, unfortunately.
+ one more thing: Mystery has REALLY dark brown eyes. this was intentional, in order to make them look like a really happy dog/animal with giant pupils XD. Mystery is overjoyed to be fused with their other half/twin, and their expression and behavior easily show that off <3.
about Mayford
Mayford is.. very chaotic. a proud mad scientist who has probably made a way to fly using glitter, and two seconds after the test is done she's onto the next project. she's a whirlwind of activity!
but at the same time, she's very empathetic. if you're tired, she's tired. the best way to calm her down is to be calm, yourself. (but don't forget a hug and some coffee-flavored candy!)
ae is also definitely a cardigan and skirt girly :). slap some of those on and a pair of leggings and aer is good to go! ae isn't as concerned with cleanliness, but aer does carry around perfumes or other smell-good products sometimes if ae knows ae's gonna smell worse for wear but not feel like cleaning or changing clothes. so.. self hygiene is in progress, at least.
another thing is that her goggles are actually glasses! both goggles and glasses, i mean. realistically i don't know how that would work, but this is Mayford. and Mayford is both fanon and so weird that, honestly, goggle-glasses that work for both sight-seeing and welding isn't the strangest invention or oddest thing she's done.
about Stanson
ok so Stanson is actually not as tired/boring as he seems! that's mostly just an act he puts on in front of others. the only true thing about it is his never-ending sarcasm and his monotone voice :).
physically, he's kinda thin, but makes up for it with leg strength, mostly. also, he is a woman! he's just incredibly butch and just happens to have a smaller chest (this doesn't bother him because frankly he Doesn't Care). he generally calls himself a 'girl' or a 'butch' instead of man/woman/lady or other terms.
Stanson is very pessimistic, but some is part of the facade and some isn't. he doesn't let this make him mean, though. he just generally tends to think on the realistic side. thankfully, this makes him a GREAT twin to Mayford (since ae is rather nonsensical).
what isn't fake is his awful fashion sense (he will truly wear anything. thankfully the only atrocious things he owns are shirts that are like, bright orange and say "well, orange YOU awesome? :)" courtesy of Mabel, but if he has sweatpants too large that he wants to wear, he's getting a belt instead of getting different pants).
about M
M is probably the most confusing one, to me, because i find it harder to relate to Dipper or Mabel.
regardless, the general consensus is that they're a hyperfixation-obsessed teenager and WILL yap in your ear for hours about it. anything from stitching patterns to a to-be-solved mystery to what they hope is gonna be for breakfast tomorrow morning. if it exists, M has probably gone on an energy-filled tangent XD. (aka: do NOT let this kid near Mabel juice... that sounds scary...)
M is detail-oriented, like Dipper, but in a more nonsensical way, like Mabel. so their train of thought and behavior may APPEAR strange, but generally their end goal was well-thought out.
they also knit/crochet sweatervests instead of sweaters! they're capable of making sweaters, but enjoy vests more due to being partially Dipper, lol. they usually keep a watch and a hairtie or two on hand, to tell/remember the time and to put up their bouncy hair if it gets annoying/overstimulating!
physically, M is the most tan fusion because Mabel and Dipper are the two main Pines who go outside the most! because M is so tan, they can usually get away with saying they're Soos's cousin if anyone asks. they also have some lighter freckles on their face, to be odd like Dipper's birthmark and to be in place of Mabel's natural blush!
additionally, M's eyes are super large with big ass pupils to show both their newfound innocence (because everything feels weirdly and interestingly new as they first start fusing with one another) and to show how energetic they are! they're kind of like when Stevonnie (from the show Steven Universe) fused for the first time, but it's all of the time, when they're fused with eachother <333.
+ one extra thing: M is a furry! maybe otherkin/a therian/etc., too, but the main thing is that they frequently enjoy wearing ears and a tail + behaving like their animal of choice :). my thought is that Ford and McGucket collaborated and made a working set of ears and tail that move based on M's emotions! the animal they like to present as most is a wolf/wolfdog!

the gist is that they act as 2 people in a singular fusion/body, unlike most fusions that act as 1 person together. normally, being split like that would cause the fusion to break apart, BUT the stans are so bonded that they make this near-impossible thing work anyway.
you could compare fusion to DID / dissociative identity disorder, since it can get more confusing/muddled/foggy with more people in a fusion, or when the people in a fusion aren't working together, but i try to refrain from making that connection too often just so i don't get Killed Forever. i am but a humble singlet.
but Mystery specifically has Stan + Ford as separate entities in one body, working together, which is why they use the plural form of they/them pronouns and also refer to themselves as a group - "we/our/ourself" & similar instead of "i/me/my/myself". hence the reference to DID🙂↕️.
on another note- something i didn't originally mention about Ford's "side" being the left while Stan's is the right, is that their respective sides were intentional! left brain, right brain sort of thing :). i don't actually think theories like that are true, it's just more of a fun reference lol. especially to the song "Left Brain, Right Brain" by "Bo Burnham" (such a classic😚).
obviously, that song is a little more extreme with the sides, but i think it can kinda represent how Ford and Stan see themselves when exaggerating in their own thoughts. Ford thinks his best side is his logical, while Stan thinks his best side is his irrational - meanwhile, it's more their entirety that's important🥰. (<- feel free to imagine that line in Mabel's voice /silly.)
okay, changing lanes again. how Mystery speaks isn't something i've wholly explored yet, but i imagine it's a bit lengthy because they're thinking both Stan and Ford's thoughts more separately instead of together. it can be a bit confusing sometimes, especially to themselves, so they frequently end up showing/gesturing more than talking. it... can make having a conversation with them kind of confusing XD.
for example:
Mabel: hey, Grunkle Mystery? do you think I should use this glitter glue or tape for this scrapbook picture?
Mystery: Well, hmm, let us.. (they crouch forward to examine, pressing their fingers to the page as if imagining what it might look like). i think you should use the- (instead of saying 'tape,' they make a gesture to mime tearing off a piece of tape and applying it to the paper).
^ and that's pretty normal for Mystery to do. writing or sign language is usually easier for them to use, but having 11 fingers can make any form of sign somewhat confusing, so Mystery generally ends up opting for gesturing, since writing can sometimes take too long (will someone make this guy an AAC device😭 /silly).
a different subject! Mystery is also a bit of a hoarder, what with Ford's forgetfulness and distaste for Earth laws paired with Stan's penchant for petty theft and bouts of amnesia/brain fog/etc. the pockets of their coat were definitely an addition LMAO🤣. they have so many strange/seemingly random things in their pockets. if you're missing a small object, you might wanna check Mystery's plethora of pockets and hiding spots within their clothes.
also, Mystery does have some bodily aches and pains. not as bad as Stan's, but worse than Ford's. they have an actual cane, some arm/leg/back braces, that sort of thing. occasionally they'll wear Stan's corset/girdle as a temporary back brace if they're missing the actual one (Mabel enjoys putting it on Waddles because it's like she can give her beloved pet a hug 24/7!)
Mystery can't run as fast or jump as high as Ford, but they can run for longer (inspired by Stan. everytime he's running/climbing/etc. he doesn't stop moving or talking until the task is done! because if he stops, he'll drop, and i think Mystery does the same thing. dummy... flicking their nose disapprovingly).
i do think about what the stan twins fusion might've been like when they were younger, too! i usually call them "StanFord" in my head, because i think those two sillies wouldn't have been able to think of anything better. (and because the name Mystery was actually suggested by M, my Mabel/Dipper fusion!)
they grew up in the late 50s to mid 60s (from what i know/believe to be true), and there was prejudice against fusion back then, too! it used to be seen only as a special or a romantic thing within family, or used purely for work purposes (lifting heavy objects in construction, etc etc). SO, the stan twins weren't taught about it very much, and it was seen as kinda weird that they enjoyed fusing so much as little kids.
so when they were teens, they couldn't fuse as much for fear of being bullied or worse, and then Ford began pulling away so they fused even less after that😓💔.
so, as little kids, they fused more as 1 person instead of 2 in 1 body. not sure what exactly they'd look like, but probably not very different than usual because they were almost identical as little kids.
in middle school / as preteens they barely fused because it was discouraged + they felt weird from puberty (understandable), but when they did it was usually as 1 person because Ford was still willing to agree with all of Stan's decision with no discussion (sighhh the miscommunication brothers strike once again). they looked more like a fusion in this era because puberty made their body types different, but they were changing between looking more like Ford and looking more like Stan constantly, lol.
highschool / teens - they briefly had a phase in the beginning where they said "fuck the rules" and began fusing more often! it stopped when Ford realized what he wanted to do. they had a more concrete look, and acted the most similar to how Mystery does in their way-far-off future! the main difference is that these two sopping wet teens have even less emotional maturity and communication skills, so this particular version of StanFord is.... very messy😭. like hormonal/emotional preteen stan twins, combined and kicked up to 100💔💔💔. they both tried to use fusion for comfort without properly consulting the other (similar to how, in SU, Jasper still wanted to fuse with Lapis, 'for both of their sakes,' even after she and Lapis had parted ways. only difference being that their situation wasn't the same (duh) and they were both in the role of Jasper or Lapis at different times).
after that, it was the science fair, and Stan only fused to live / when he was being abused, while Ford put off fusing entirely (he did it like once with Fiddleford and almost immediately unfused + had a giant panic attack). AWFUL. i hate gayass repressed men, i say, on my way to kiss them stupid /silly.

i'd say fordson doesn't have the instincts but still seems like an omega because of maystan, while mayford seems like an alpha because of stanson. just like, acting the part for their twin counterparts when they go into heat/rut yknow? just a sweet thing to do :)
actually also do they have to be strictly canines. m is definitely a wolfpup to me but itd be fun to make the others different mammals.
stanson just HAS to be a wombat. maystan is a big opossum! fordson can be a plaidypus, as a treat. mayford is a chinchilla definitely. aaaand i think mystery could be cool as a giant pangolin!
