to be so fucking real with you, I got the idea for the soulbond from a mha fic where deku, bakugo, and todoroki are all soulmates who feel each other's pain LMAO I never even finished mha, but the fandom was fun during the pandemic era of tiktok so it got me idkk
I haven't read that fic in yeaaaarrrrssss but when the song hold me like a grudge came out, the lyric "part time soulmate, full time problem" felt so klance to me I felt so compelled to write a klance soulmate au with that title but felt like I didn't have anything to add to most soulmate tropes so I was kinda just sitting there yearning for a while lmao. there are soo many incredible klance soulmate aus out there already that I didn't want to do something that would just feel like walmart brand there nestled against his pulse or something lol but then one day when I was listening to the song in the car I remembered that mha fic and it just clicked !!
so I thought about it occasionally but not too often until I was doing a voltron rewatch and the fic idea was loosely in my brain and I just kept seeing opportunities like the crystal explosion and the blade trials and... drumroll please.... lance's death. and it was so fun to think about how knowing that they're soulmates literally from episode four would change their early seasons dynamic, and then exploring like external reasons to keep them apart and thinking about how different plot points in the show would impact them differently with this context. something sooo deeply fun about planning and writing part time soulmate is that it feels like solving a puzzle sometimes. I love staring down canon and being like hmm okay how can I enhance this with the soulmate setting, or how does the soulmate setting change the tone of this canon scene, etc. it's so much fun oughhh by god I'm so stoked for y'all to see the way I incorporated soulbonds into the worldbuilding in later seasons. sometimes I'm like actually shocked by how well this particular soulbond fits into canon, ngl
I think the earliest draft of ptsftp is from like 2023 or something but I was honestly nervous to commit to this project so soon after getting back into writing, but it's where the inspiration was running and I figured I should stop holding myself back and just try to write it. I never expected this many people to read it or become so invested in it which can feel a little intimidating sometimes but hey!! I'm having fun!! and it seems like readers are too so, no complaints!! kinda crazy to start off my fic writing career with what's probably my magnum opus lowkey lmao but I'm having a blast
