I’m stupid I fear. What’s pttd???? Aaaaannddd rant about it! I wanna hear stuffff
Pttb stands for Paint The Town Blue (yes that’s an arcane reference), it’s a modern au of mine that I’m working on and very excited about
Long story short, think pit fighter Vi but it’s Varian
I’m still in the planning stages of this au but I already love it so I’ll give you the bullet points
Varian fucked up his life in Corona after his dad was attacked and put in a coma. Cops (Eugene specifically) spent a bit of time trying to find the attacker but ultimately had to close the case due to other pressing issues. Obviously Varian gets upset about this because Eugene promised he’d do “whatever he can” and he’s going back on his promise by closing the case. Stuff happens, Varian runs away.
Andrew owns an underground fight ring. He found Varian— who has a lot of anger and resentment, all that angsty stuff— and took him in, using those emotions to turn him into his champion fighter
Hugo is in Vardaros after his life fall apart in Ingvarr. He used to fight for Don but she forced him out for his own safety after he was almost killed, so now he’s just trying to figure out who he is without all the violence and constant need to win
Hugo is an artist btw :3 he owns an art studio and works mostly with clay because sometimes he needs the reminder that his hands can create beautiful things and aren’t just meant for destruction
He’s looking for some quick cash one day and hears a rumor about an underground fight ring. He gets the tip to “always bet on blue”, and since he has nothing better to do he goes
Varian’s fight name is Baby Blue, something meant to sound mocking and paralleling how out of place he seems surrounded by all these burly thugs trying to land him in the hospital. He’s small and unassuming with a name to match. This gets people to bet against him, meaning Andrew takes home more money when Varian surprises the crowd by winning (still learning how fight rings and betting and all that stuff actually works so if something seems inaccurate, that’s why)
Hugo, obviously, is enamored by this mysterious champion and comes back almost every night to watch him fight
Varian takes notice of Hugo after a while, they bond over drinks, aaaaand bam the story starts
They have a little fling going and the closer they get, the more Hugo starts to have a positive effect on Varian. Varian’s in a dark place and has been since he left Corona, then Hugo comes along and slowly helps him out of this angry haze he’s been in and makes him want to become a better person. Hugo’s the first person to see Varian as Varian and not just Baby Blue, and it makes him feel like maybe he can be more than that :)
I won’t say more cuz I do plan on publishing this as a fic someday and I don’t want apoilers
Like I said, it’s still in its planning stages and there’s still a bunch of things I have to figure out, but I do know where I want it to go and what vibes I’m going for at the very least. I’ve had some of this in my head (Varian’s fighter name, the fight ring stuff) since around December I think? But I didn’t actually start world building until I mentioned it to my friends and they went crazy over it (which hehehehe thanks guys ilysm)
