The Puck Fair festival in Kerry began yesterday
The oldest festival in Europe, with elements dating back to pagan times. Jerry Mulvihill released a book on this ancient fair in 2014. 800 years of celebration that has survived Ireland’s tumultuous history. This incredible celebration is steeped in history but is also surrounded by fascinating myths and legends. 100s of photos, illustrations and facts in the book. Signed copies here:…

Puck Fair, “Doll’s Waltz,” from their 1987 Windham Hill album Fair Play, which is full of hauntingly lovely flute/guitar/bodhran compositions like this, as well as some foot-stompers. A ‘poc’ is an Irish he-goat, & at Puck fair n Co.Kerry Ireland in early Aug, a goat is crowned king by a young queen, & then worshipped over 3 days of festivities. Perhaps linked to Lughnasadh, it is hoped the goat, as a symbol of fertility, will bring a good harvest.
