Puck-Man ended up getting a rename after arcade owners feared people would deface his name to a swear word on the cabinet. So Pac-Man was born and it’s a rare case where the renamed stuck over the original name.

Pac-Man origins are always surrounded in mystery the official line by Toru Iwatani is he got the idea from a pizza business. Normally whenever he’s discussing the official line, Namco has about 5+ minders around him to make sure he sticks to it. The unofficial line is that he may have come up with the game after taking a narcotic substance. After all Pac-Man is for want of a better word a drug addict who eats pills, see ghosts and eats power pills to eat the ghosts, like he’s happily tripping away. Nothing suspicious there then and of course this is just all just rumour, but we know which one Randomised Gaming believes to be true origins of Pac-Man.
