LIKE okay here's something i didn't comment on when i played this part the other day because i thought "maybe i'm just crazy or remembering it wrong" (lol), but i just went on youtube to check an old walkthrough and this is the kind of thing i'm talking about. take this exchange before the fight with the dweller of torment. on the left is the original dialogue, and on the right is what's currently in the game:
...why change this? if you ask me, the new version is at best less interesting and at worst it makes no sense. the thing about the eclipse light explains why the solstice warriors couldn’t do anything, sure, but the idea that they would choose to keep the dweller’s whole existence (and the matriarch’s situation!!!) a secret when they're well aware that unchecked dwellers eventually become world eaters is something i find really hard to believe. not only was the memory-wiping curse an easy way to explain all that, it also fit perfectly with the way resh’an hypes up torment peak as this place that horribly messes with your head unless you go in with special magical protection. [edit: since writing this, i've learned that all that dialogue was removed, too! cool!] an interesting bit of lore that, to me, really added something to the bleak atmosphere of that whole chapter becomes this weird, weak, forgettable excuse. and for what?
i dunno. at the end of the day, it’s not that big a deal.
i think this edit just stood out to me because i’m literally writing something right now that takes inspiration from the original scene, and is even kind of supposed to be a direct nod to it. it’s weird to think there’s a decent amount of people who wouldn't pick up on that reference at all even though we played the same game, you know?
