Princess Irene has discovered a secret staircase in the castle that leads to a labyrinth of rooms and another stair that leads to a secret room. Meanwhile, Curdie, the miner’s son, overhears a fiendish plot hatched by the goblins that live under the mountain. With the help of Irene and her magic ring, can she and Curdie stop the goblins before it’s too late?

When I was in elementary school I went to this old bookshop with a friend and got a vintage hardcover copy of this book and The Secret Garden and an astrology book. I only had $8 and the gentleman said that’d be just fine for the three books. I read The Princess and the Goblin over and over, revisiting it in middle school and high school. Now I’m reading it again!

This is such a nostalgic story for me as it deals with what it truly means to be a princess, what it means to believe in magic, and how we must care for each other. This story is very magical and it holds a special place in my heart. It’s adventurous and keeps you guessing.
