So... I went to visit the Pottermore website today and finally, a new update pops up. I felt a mixture of both relief and sadness; relief because we have all been wondering when the old website would be gone and when it would be replaced with the new one and it is finally here. Anticipation and waiting over. But sad because... the Hogwarts we knew on Pottermore is gone.
Pottermore is probably the place where most of us came to get in touch with each other, figuring out that we actually belong in Hufflepuff, fighting for the house cup as a team all year round. But right now, it’s gone. No more logging in, no more duelling, no more potion lessons, no more going on adventures in our moments with Harry, no more common rooms, no more great hall, nothing.
The new Pottermore seems nothing like what we have come to know, no more games setting... it’s more of just pages of new information that have been added. To put it in the website’s own words:
“We have so much more to give you; writing, movies, plays, books, characters, places, backstories, and it’s rumoured that discovering your very own Patronus is also in the works...”
I was scrolling through the “Welcome to the New Pottermore” page and found out that they would be bringing the Sorting Hat back. They will be giving us our wands again too, and a new quiz to find out about our very own Patronus. Despite all of this, I feel like it would only just be a quiz, not really a place where we can stay put in on the website and feel like we’re in Hogwarts again.
I browsed through the website a little bit and found heaps of information being cluttered together in sections; links and tabs to various pages filled with more information. It is great, getting to know more, having more content to view but at the same time... I really miss the old Pottermore. And I might actually prefer that to the current one. Then again, this is just my personal opinion.
