Imagine the last tree standing. I just want to take a photo of this tree before it's gone for good.
As early as 3 months ago the land behind the tree was a secondary forest with a hill slope covered with lush greenery. Now what is left is a barren piece of land completely cleared of vegetation, except for pockets of the original forest in the centre and at the fringes. In the distance I hear the sound of two excavators carrying out earth excavation work in the land clearing behind this solitary tree.
This spot is a hill top and the highest point in PUJ 7 where I sometimes go there at 6pm and leave at sunset to exercise. I come here because being secluded, I enjoy the fresh air, cool ambient and the quietude while doing my workouts.
Today this spot is still secluded and the air is fresh, but gone is the silence. While doing the exercises I struggled to keep my mind peaceful at the same time putting up with the jarring noise from the two excavators operating in the land clearing behind me.
I wonder why this tree is spared for the time being. I reckon as the developer starts to construct houses after completing the earthwork, this tree will eventually be chopped down.
