some pulp paintings i did for class! mostly just screwing around as I've never done this technique before. the two portraits are two of my characters and they are supposed to be facing each other so unfortunately i don't know left from right OOPSIE. Perhaps i will take better scans of these later so you can see the texture.
the backing tan-ish sheet is abaca fiber (beaten like 3.5 hours) and the colorful areas are white cotton i pigmented

Paper, we have lots of paper, and lots of materials that focus on paper, in the special collections. One of our favorite of these items is The Art of Pulp Painting, a folio edition from 2005 published by Hand Papermaking. Pulp painting is a process that uses pigmented paper pulp as a painting medium and this folio has examples of pulp painting by 18 different artists, including these five here..
King of All Birds No. 21 – Eurasian Wren -- pulp painting on handmade paper (2019), Item No. 283.21. This paper is made from flax and recycled t-shirts.
Bluebird No. 60 – pulp painting on handmade paper (2018), by Don Widmer. This is an example of “couching.” Two freshly formed sheets of paper, made from different fibers, are pressed together causing them to bond together into a single piece. Available on Etsy.
