The act of gift giving is an exercise in reciprocity. "A gift for a gift" is a phrase I frequently hear in Heathen circles. We've just ended a period of major gift giving (for those of us in Christian-dominant, Christmas celebrating cultures). This week, we can expect to see some gifts come our way as a show of reciprocity. It may not be a physical gift to open (like so many of the gifts given recently), it likely won't be, though don't rule that possibility out. Whatever comes your ways, be ready to actually receive it. Don't just brush it off, insist it isn't necessary to be given, or judge the giver for their choice of gift. Allow yourself to receive and appreciate what the other person is giving you, as well as their intentions in giving it. Hold onto that so you know how you can return the favor when your time to give to them again returns.
