MAKING A PUNK PANT COMISSION DAY 2
I wanted to start with the cross-leg big nonbinary flag patch, which i wanted to be patchwork style. Ive never done it before so i made a few mistakes but its just a time save for the next time i make one.
Step one was to pick fabrics i was gonna use so I got yellow plad i thrifted, white polyester, purple chiffon (??? some bitchass fabric that ended up being hell to work with) and some black faux leather i had in my stash
Step 2 was the pattern
I happen to be very similar in width to the friend this is for so I was able to put the pants, wrap my leg in plastic wrap and masking tape and just draw the pattern on, the beloved cosplay method. I opted for the pointy shape bc it looks cool.
Then i cut out all the individual templates, tape them to their corresponding fabrics (bc i didn't feel like getting up and getting my sewing pins) and cut out every colour but purple. I then fabric glued the yellow, white and black pieces to the sheet of purple fabric i had splayed bc it was very thin and a nightmare to work with and i wanted to cut it as little as possible.
Next i took the whole sheet to my sewing machine and i zig-zag stitched the edges between the colours to minimise fraying and add uniformity and finally cut the whole thing out and it was done!
Enjoy the very low quality photo of the patch pinned to my pants.
Next, as per request, I added a fucking curved zipper to the front pocket, which I did by hand and it turned out to be way easier than i thought it was gonna be. Still hellish tho.
I also added a ring on a leather strap (real leather i got from altering thrifted biker pants!!) next to where the zipper is so that my friend can put their phone in their pocket, lock it with a number lock and go into clubs, mosh pits and sleep at festivals without worrying about losing their shit.
Next I took all the patches I made yesterday and machine hemmed them so that they won't unravel. This took an ungodly amount of time. I also added silver rivets to the motley crue patch bc i was feeling extra.
I layed all the patches out, pretty faithfully to the sketch, made sure it was greenlit, and then safety-pinned them in place. The next 5 hours I spent by the riverside with a buddy handsewing the big flag patch on
That's all I did today!
Tomorrow I hope to sew all the remaining patches on, just really get in the zone and get it done. After that they will be functional so any addition will just be extra pizzazz and the pressure will be off and I'll be able to just have fun
