Mellie: “You’re jealous, aren’t you?” / “Don’t tempt me.” / “These stars are nothing compared to the ones I’ve seen in your eyes.” / “Tell all those other guys you don’t need them ‘cause you got me.” / ♦ / ♫ / ☎ / [text] Open the door, I’m here.
“You’re jealous, aren’t you?”
Mel wasn’t trying to hide it, she really did hate when Oliver hung around with other girls. She should be the one he wanted to be around, not them. Playing dumb, Mel glanced over at him with wide eyes. “Jealous? Me? No.”
“Don’t tempt me.”
Unbuttoning another button on her flannel, Mel merely raised a brow when Oliver spoke. “But it’s so much fun.” she giggled, sliding out of the flannel and tossing it towards Oliver. “Don’t act like you don’t like it.”
“These stars are nothing compared to the ones I’ve seen in your eyes.”
“Did you just google cheesy pick up lines and decide on that one?” she laughed, turning her head to look at Oliver. She wished that stupid line didn’t make her heart beat so fast, though. She knew she loved Oliver, but he didn’t know. He couldn’t know. “So, my eyes are just as beautiful as the stars?”
“Tell all those other guys you don’t need them ‘cause you got me.”
“Do I really have you, though?” she asked, unsure if Oliver was hers to begin with. Though she wouldn’t admit it, Mel was insecure when it came to Ollie. He was the perfect guy for her, but she wasn’t sure if she was the perfect girl for him. “If you want to be with me, prove it. Then we’ll talk.”
♦: for an apologetic voicemail
“Ollie, please--pick up. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to for Alec to find out. He cornered me, and I, I told him. He was bound to find out anyways, but it’s not your fault! Please, please, please pick up.”
♫: for a vague voicemail
“Hey, it’s me. Um, I really need to tell you something, so, just call me back? No, wait, I’d rather tell you in person. Oh, fuck, maybe--never mind. Come over, I need to talk to you.”
☎: for a voicemail not meant for you
“Hey, it’s Mel. Yeah, I’ll play at the coffeehouse tonight. Just, can you not fuck me over this time? I’d like to be paid. Thanks.”
Skylex: “Do you want me to leave?” / “Stay the night. Please.” / “Is that a gun in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?” / ♣ / ☆ / ♚ / "Are you saying this doesn’t turn you on?" / [text] Are you still up? I can’t sleep.
“Do you want me to leave?”
Unsure of how to reply, Alex stayed quiet for a few moments. “I mean, you don’t have to, if you don’t wanna’.” He hoped it came out casual, because damn, did he want her to stay. Alex wished that his pride didn’t get in the way, but it did. He couldn’t beg her to stay with him, it just wasn’t his style.
“Stay the night. Please.”
It was Alex’s full intention to stay at her place, but she didn’t have to know that. “Tonight?” he furrowed his brows, pretending to be in thought. “I mean, I guess I can. I have nothin’ to do in the morning, so.”
“Is that a gun in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?”
Alex didn’t expect for Skylar to notice so quickly, so in reply he shifted around, while blushing slightly. “God, shut up--you’re the worst.” he huffed, hoping the topic of their conversation wouldn’t stay on what’s in his pants for long.
♣: for a sad voicemail
“Uh, hey. I just wanted to let you know that you left some things at my place. I’m really busy... but you can come by. I’ll try not to be there, you know how your boyfriend gets whenever I’m around. So I won’t be. Just let me know when you get your shit.”
☆ : for a drunken voicemail
“Skylar, Skylar, Skylar. I wish you would have answered me.... why do you never answer when I call? I love you... so you should always answer me. I miss that voice of yours, so... answer me. Always answer me. Hear that? It’s me, telling you, Skylar, to answer me. So, plea--”
♚ : for a confessing voicemail
“I wish you picked up, but I need to get this off of my chest. I just burnt down half of your kitchen while making pizza rolls. Okay, see you later, bye!”
"Are you saying this doesn’t turn you on?"
“Well, as lovely as your dancing is...” Alex trailed off, trying to hold in a laugh. She wasn’t the best. Actually, she was pretty terrible. Sputtering, Alex shook his head from side to side. “No, it doesn’t. But, you know what does... so maybe you should do that instead.”
mellie: “i dreamt you chose me instead.” / “why do you always leave me?” / “terrified of my love for you?”
“i dreamt you chose me instead.”
Setting her jaw, Amelia glared at Oliver. “I hate you. You say shit like that to me all the time, but you know what? It is you! It’s always been you, but you’re the one who doesn’t want me. You fuck around with other girls and then expect me to still want to be with you. It doesn’t work that way. I didn’t choose you, because you didn’t choose me. Now stop making me feel guilty for doing the same exact thing that you did.”
“why do you always leave me?”
“Are you really asking me that, Oliver?” As much as she tried to hide it, her voice shook. “I don’t--I don’t leave you.” That was a lie if she ever had told one. “But it’s not exactly like you make it easy to stay...”
“terrified of my love for you?”
Amelia had to stop lying to him. “Yes.” she replied, afraid to look at him. That’s the most honest she had ever been with him, but now she couldn’t even look him in the eye. “I’m no good at love, Ollie. I would tear you apart. That’s why I’m scared--I know I’ll break you. I wish I could say different.”
skylex: “shut up already, i’m not going." / “why do you always leave me?” / “say something nice or don’t speak."
“shut up already, i’m not going."
“Are you kidding? You’re going. I’m literally pretending to be your soon-to-be husband, I think you can be my date to a party.” Normally, Alex got along with Skylar just fine, but as of late, she was grating his last nerve. “Seriously, I do everything you fuckin’ ask, so why can’t you do something for me, just this once?”
“why do you always leave me?”
Pausing, Alex glanced over his shoulder at Skylar. “Am I supposed to stay?” He wasn’t sure what to do. Everything felt wrong, the lies, but it felt even more wrong to leave Skylar behind. “You know how things are supposed to be... you pay me, and I pretend for you and your family, but then we go our separate ways. That’s always been the deal. Why the hell are you trying to make me feel guilty for trying to go back to my normal life?” He was angry now, and before he lost his temper, he stomped out, slamming the door behind him.
“say something nice or don’t speak."
“Something nice.” Alex mocked her, sticking his tongue out as he did so. Skylar was always bitching at him for this and that, and Alex had gotten used to it, and eventually found it slightly endearing. “You and I both know damn well that I can’t say anything nice. And we both know I can’t stay quiet.”
Mellie: "Hey! Give me your pants. Quick, give me your pants." / "I don't think I can do this anymore." / "I heard you say his name last night in your sleep. Want to explain or should I just leave?" / "I could give you some pills to sleep. They aren't healthy, but this is even less healthy." / [text]: I don't love you.
"Hey! Give me your pants. Quick, give me your pants."
“What, why?” Amelia inquired, throwing a puzzled look at Oliver. He sounded rather serious, so instead of waiting for an answer, Mel unbuttoned her jeans and slid them down her thin legs. Tossing them in his general direction, Mel continued to stare at him like he had two heads. “I swear, if you just wanna’ hook up and this is your way of telling me...”
"I don't think I can do this anymore."
“Do what?” she asked quietly, already knowing exactly what he was talking about. She had tried to hard to hold onto him, but Oliver was just slipped through her fingers. “Do you not want to try anymore?” Her voice was small, and even though she knew that this time would come, it didn’t make it hurt any less. “I... if this what you want.”
"I heard you say his name last night in your sleep. Want to explain or should I just leave?"
Amelia was horrified, she couldn’t believe that her subconscious had basically outed her to Oliver. “What name?” she asked, playing dumb. She had been with a lot of other guys, not necessarily behind Oliver’s back, but she hadn’t told him upfront about them. “I was probably just dreaming or something, ‘cause I have no idea who you could be talking about.”
"I could give you some pills to sleep. They aren't healthy, but this is even less healthy."
Swatting his hand away, Mel shook her head from side to side. “No. I’m fine. I’m not sure how many times I have to tell you that I’m okay.” She hadn’t slept for the longest time it felt like, and it was definitely wearing her down. She could barely keep up with Oliver, and now he had taken notice. Her guilt was eating her alive. She had cheated on him, time after time, yet he was still with her, offering her help, even. “I swear. I’m fine.”
