Gwyn's really trying, but some days she just wants to eat the stuffed toys. She brought three yesterday morning in fifteen minutes, and we played tug with each one until she got the puppy enthusiasms and started trying to gnaw them to bits. And I put them out of reach.
She absolutely refused to gnaw on any of the acceptable chews... unless I was holding them.
[Sound: occasional tooth on hard chew "clink"]
Gwyn was fidgeting nonstop yesterday from 6:30am to 5:30pm. It's a good thing she's mostly easy to entertain: stick a thing on a thing, and she wants to undo it again. They got marrow bones earlier, gnawed them clean... then I stuck one over the head of Gwyn's rope/cordura duck.
Great entertainment, at least ten minutes of problem-solving in that. Gwyn didn't want the bone or the duck, of course, she just wanted to separate them.
She can sit with Tristan for moral support, as long as she doesn't step on him.
Sunday, Gwyn was having a very Difficult to be a Puppy day. She also desperately wanted Tristan's Fetch and Tug Buddy to wake up, as she does every weekend. That little paw resting on his knee!
She managed to hold that hopeful position for approximately four and a half minutes before her puppy Short Attention Spaniel ran out.
I have Learned A Thing today.
If your puppy is having intense Puppy Fidgets and cannot settle, and it's really hot out, if you take hollow marrow bones and stuff them with rice/canned pumpkin and stick them in the freezer...
... if you then hand one to the Fidget Puppy and she drops it on the floor, all your hard work will pop right out of the marrow bone and it won't occupy her for more than 0.1 seconds.
I learned a Second Thing as well, which is that if you give one of these pupsicles to a soft-mouthed Tristan, he will simply make sad faces full of thousands of Sad Spaniel Eyes until you find him something else. No frozen hard treats for Tristan.
For entertainment today, we have a shredded paper bag... inside another paper bag... inside a third paper bag... inside a fourth paper bag.
Gwyn was having a "difficult to be a puppy" day, so I broke out one of the new toys I keep for just such a mood. It crinkles, it stretches, it squeaks, it's NEW. Gwyn can take her puppy frustration energy out on the hapless little toy.
Gwyn really wanted Tristan to play while he was in the Drying Bathrobe of Disgrace. She brought him her shredding box and everything.
Tristan is usually pretty enthused about wearing stuff, but the Drying Bathrobe of Disgrace is only barely tolerable, and he was unwilling to do anything except wait for it to be over.
