There are moments..
Where I think about how different my life would be if I went to Marymount Manhattan.
I was absolutely sure that's where I would go, I fell completely in love with the school and the area... at the time.
But then, senior shit year went on and a series of unfortunate events happened the first semester.
And then I realized that everything I used to love about the school, started to freak me out.
It's a small school, only about 2000. I thought that's what I wanted, but that was a bit TOO small for me. I didn't want to meet everybody so quickly and then drama start to unfold way too soon.
I wanted every year to be new people and different faces to see in a sense.
It also wasn't a campus. It's in the city, which I'm absolutely in love with. I'm a city girl at heart and that's what I'll always be.
I wanted to dorm in the city, but my parents wouldn't pay $20,000 extra for me to live in the city when I'm right next to the train.
I did NOT want to commute, and they were right.
But my anxiety was too bad and my nerves were too on edge for me to actually be traveling into the city every day.
I'd be exhausted, stressed, and panicking all day. ESPECIALLY if I had a job and was a full time college student. I was already stressed enough as it is at Purchase, but to have to deal with crowded trains and streets and loud noises going to school everyday....I knew I couldn't handle it at the time.
I'll save that for grad school.
And I realized that I've been in the city my whole life pretty much, and college is about change and new experiences.
So I wanted to go somewhere out of my comfort zone, to be able to get away.
I wanted to leave my past and all of the crappy people and memories behind and start somewhere completely new.
I wanted to be able to walk around and know absolutely no one and not have to run into people and I just wanted a clean slate.
I deserved it.
Purchase is the best of both worlds because I'm far enough, but I'm not in another state or hours and hours away.
Marymount was a great school, and sometimes I wish I went for the sake of being able to take music and theater classes with the snap of my fingers. At Purchase, it's hard to take advance classes because it's only for the conservatory students.
But I'm planning on taking music therapy and performance classes at a community college during the summers, so not only can I get the experience, but also extra credits so I can graduate early.
I completely love Purchase, and I couldn't be happier with the choice I made.
It's where I'm supposed to be.
