Nokia announce a Camera+Phone!
Today Nokia have announced the Nokia 808 PureView which features a 41MP (forty one megapixel) camera.
Most new smartphones today are being released with 8MP camera's as a standard. Nokia have gone not a step ahead but a leap ahead and bolted on a 41MP camera to their latest PureView 808 phone. I dont even know of an SLR with this many megapixels.
At this point, we should look at the specifications of the phone to see what else it has:
Specifications
4inch screen
640x360 resolution.... (oh... really? ew)
16GB storage plus a microSD card (needed to store these billboard sized photos)
HDMI (great to view the photos on a decent screen)
DLNA (another way to share the photos on another decent screen)
NFC (for mobile payments but also for tap to go services)
169grams and 13mm thick
The camera:
41MP sensor with Cal Zeiss optics on the rear, no front facing camera (hm, not even 1MP camera on the front...)
Capable of full HD 1920x1080 video at 30fps
Autofocus and touch to focus
Focus modes include Hyperfocal, Macro, Infinity and Auto
F number/aperature of F2.4
16:9 or 4:3 at a maximum of 41MP
The photos that this camera produce are actually pretty amazing, Nokia have released some here:

Operating System
The amazing camera on this phone is a huge selling point. The biggest disadvantage of this phone straight up is that it is running Symbian Belle rather than Windows Phone 7 (like all other new Nokia's). I am so frustrated by this, they have bolted an amazing camera to a poor operating system and for me it is a deal breaker.
Overall
The phone itself is also average. The screen resolution is so low that the amazing pictures it captures cannot be displayed well enough to be enjoyed. The lack of a front facing camera is also a shame, 41MP on the back and zero on the front?
I am hoping it comes to Australia so I can have a play with it and give you some more definitive feedback however for now, it is an amazing camera on a poor phone.
