#3145 - Patersonia drummondii

One of the native Irises better known as Purple Flags. Around Perth, the most common species is Patersonia occidentalis, but out around Wongan Hills there's drummondi, and umbrosa, or at least subspecies of those.

Drummondi is found across much of the Western Wheatbelt, and up into the Geraldton sandplains. It was named after James Drummond (late 1786 or early 1787 – 26 March 1863), an Australian botanist and naturalist and early settler in Western Australia. The genus itself, found across much of Malesia and Australia, was named after the first Lieutenant Governor of New South Wales, William Paterson, supposedly "a gentleman whose name has been long familiar to the naturalist". I've never heard of him.
