I recently found out that my boyfriend is only attracted to me because he fetishizes red hair, and he admitted that he doesn't care about my personality at all. He says that if I break up with him, he'll tell everyone at my job that I'm ex-red. Any advice?

I’m not sure I understand - are you using a wig instead of dye at work?  I don’t see how otherwise either they wouldn’t know already or he wouldn’t have red hair to look at but wigs are much less safe than regular dye.

At any rate that sounds very scary and I’m sorry it’s happening to you!  I don’t know what might work but there are a bunch of things you could try at the same time - maybe he would like to see openly ex-red sex workers with your permission, and at first this can be in addition to you but maybe later you can have more room without provoking him.  Maybe you can make friends and start trying to network in another city in your country.  Maybe someone in Miolee or another country where ex-reds live would love to be where you are and you can get on the swap list quietly and see if that pans out.

And don’t introduce him to anyone in your family he doesn’t already for sure know about.

Well, I thought you might be right for a moment there, but then I saw streaks-of-scarlet-sunset and I realised that you people are FAKE REDS. Real reds like her KNOW THEIR PLACE. Why don't you stop suppressing and silencing the voices of actual reds?

Well, we’re not reds any more, but we’re real cousins and we all remember being real reds.

We are pretty sure that streaks-of-scarlet-sunset is a real red.  Sometimes people pretend as a roleplaying or trolling thing, but we think that’s not what’s going on with them.  But they aren’t a typical red.  We can’t figure out exact details over the internet but we are pretty sure they have at least one mental illness which is interacting really badly with how non-cousins often want reds to be and how they talk about reds.  There are probably non-cousins with the same kind of mental illness, since we are the same species, but they would probably talk about something else when they get upset about thinking they’re horrible and it would sound different to people who think being red really is that bad and other things aren’t.

Is the thing where you can't feel your own pollution related to that thing where some reds say they're just normal people and pollution isn't real? Are they just reds who decided to trust their pollution sense instead of theological consensus? Do those of you who understand the theology actually care? If we'd sent you to another planet by yourselves after you were clean, so no one else would be affected, would you decontaminate properly or just rinse off physical dirt and call that good enough?

I’m not sure what cousins would do with our own planet!  We might not do a full decontamination shower, but some clean countries don’t have the same domestic standards - I hear there are places you can get away with half as long and they won’t bring you up on full pollution violation charges, just weakening-international-trust charges.  A red planet might have standards somewhere between “wash off the dirt” and “Amenta’s current international requirements”, but so might a born-clean colony that didn’t trade very much with Amenta.

Reds who say pollution isn’t real mean something sort of like, “we’ve learned a lot of things about particles and germs, this sense evolved to keep us from getting sick but we can do that separately now, when caring about pollution hurts people - and it does - it’s important to remember that”.  Since not caring about pollution really hurts people too, we all have to follow the rules, of course, but not everybody puts all the context in their tumblr posts that are just about venting how they feel.  ...or maybe they just mean “if everyone felt like me, theology would look really different, and that theology would be okay too” and aren’t mentioning that of course there are tons of ways we have to cooperate with people different from ourselves and in the real world where most people are meso this involves agreeing on a theology that works for mesos.

I don’t know very much about theology, as you might be able to tell, but I don’t think learning more theology can change someone’s sensitivity.  It might change how important they think it is to compensate for it, but reds have always had to be really careful about that or die, so there’s not much room to care more.
