The crabs are finally getting active for the summer again!! It's a lot more fun running downstairs to get supplies for Crab Con merch now that there's usually several out to play Where's Waldo with.

Upgraded hermit crab tanks! 230 gallon is done!
Here's my hermit crab tank!! I have 5 crabs rn and about 10 million dairy cow isopods. I want to get some plants in there as well but tbh I'm kind of lazy and executive dysfunction is my greatest enemy.
I got the hermits out for closer investigation and am very happy I took them when I did. The smallest one, Shine, isn't doing very well. She seems weak and a pale pink instead of the darker red and purple she should be. She doesn't move much and just seems in rough shape all around. Shine, the next sized up girl, is also a little pale but decently active and should be just fine in the long run with some good food and proper care. Moose, the biggest baby, is actually from my work. I fell in love with him and had to take him because I little boy with a critterkeeper hermit crab cage was eyeing him -_-. They had to stay in their smaller cage overnight because I had to move the leopard geckos since we apparently are going to be painting in the room they were in, but their new tank is getting set up now. The sand they were on was about half sand and half food and poop. I was hoping to salvage some to mix with their soil, but I don't think I'll be able to sadly. I'll post pictures once they are in their new, temporary 10g!
Happy Holidays from the pinchy children! <3
Should I draw hermit crabs with antennes or no? (Let me know!) [Please do not remove caption or repost]
Link came back up from her molt and I’m so happy!! :’D She picked out a larger green shell for herself so she can finally cosplay properly.
Nice to meet you!
Hi, my name’s Ashe and I currently look after three tanks. Doing a blog seems like a great way to track the habitats’ progress and learn from the tumblr community. Okay time for introductions, let’s start with the crabs!
This is a 20 Gal Crabitat, home to 3 Caribbean hermit crabs, Lil Bubs, Big Buns, and Coconut. I was gifted Lil Bubs in 2015 and quickly realized these weren’t low maintenance animals (at least relative to what most people expect). I have lost one crab, Apple Peach, in mysterious circumstances, but everyone else seems to be doing well after 1-2 years. Earlier this week I redid their tank, replacing the coconut husk, adding a small layer of sand, cutting and replanting the three plants I grow inside, and finally adding a mossy shell hammock. I’m hoping this will give them more space to move around on the ground as well as climb.

I also added some shells I collected at the beach in Nantucket, MA. Coconut lost no time in switching into one of the new “wild” shells
