Hey, really stupid question. For the Maia Roberts according to Tumblr tags post, was there a particular way to find out the most popular tags or did you just scroll through the Maia tag and see which were most commonly tagged... I have totally just overused the word tag... -lesbianalinex
Hi there! No question is stupid I would glad to explain how I went about selecting tags for that particular gifset. Just read below for more.
1) Initially, I started collecting based on what I saw from what people were blogging.
2) However, Tumblr has this really useful feature that made the job easier. It's called the ‘Tag Crawler’ you can enable this feature in your setting.
3) Go to settings, this will lead you to your account settings but instead on the right side hand of the page along with tabs to manage settings for your dashboard, appearance etc you see Labs - click it. You have enable Tumblr labs in order for the feature to work. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and select the ‘Tag Crawler’ to be on
What this feature allows you to do is view the tags people put on any post.
4) Return to your dashboard (once Tumblr saves your new settings) click on a post’s notes. When you do you will see the usual set up of people’s comments/replies as normal. But at the top of with the no. of notes is displayed a hashtag symbol will appear too - click it and all the reblogs of that post that have tags will appear and you can scroll through them all.
While the feature doesn’t show the popularity of a specific tag it does allow for you to see tags much more quickly than going through individual reblogs via activity.
With that, you can then browse quickly and see what tags people are using (in this case, common tags to describe a character) on posts
