Myxomatosis
Woooooo! More rambling
Believe it or not but this is another separate universe, it is closest to the story of a Hug from Dad which is on my profile if you want to check it out!
In this slightly off kilter version William was never spring trapped. I eventually want to make a whole ass comic series in regard to this so I wont spoil too much but in this version Evan got to the five before his Father did, with all of that out of the way Enjoy!
Evans first mistake is falling asleep in his Fathers apartment.
For the sake of honestly he's been feeling awful for a while, but Evan hasn't allowed him to be honest with himself.
Instead he's been operating on a don't think on it mindset.
Don't think about the increasing lack of leads or evidence.
Don't think about his siblings.
Don't think about the handprints imprinted on his skin.
His Father would most certainly be on the list but, his Father seemingly aware of this was making it his mission to stay in contact.
How he was doing this, was giving him breadcrumbs of information.
Enough to maintain the connection out of usefulness but not enough that Evan could fully cut contact and head back out on his own.
For a couple of weeks this continues.
Him coming to his Fathers annoyingly lavish apartment, where he proceeds to fuss over him while Evan stonily requests info on how to fix all of his mistakes.
But there is other reasons.
One night about a week before he falls ill he awakens confused and disorientated.
He wearily blinks his eye open to the feeling of his head being supported by something far more firm than his cheap pillow.
He's warm and comfortable and exhausted enough that he almost turns back into the comforting dark and drifts off. But then he registers the feeling of someone delicately petting through his curls.
He registers then that his head is in his fathers lap.
He sits up so fast that he almost clips his fathers chin and almost completely tumbles off the couch in the haste to right himself.
His Father is as unruffled as ever.
" Have a nightmare?" he says casually.
Evan cannot fucking hold it in anymore, he is saying something.
He is going to Fucking say something.
Yet as he closes his eye and takes a deep breath his Father reaches out and takes his face in his hands to examine him.
And Evan stops.
The thing you need to understand about Evan is that he is broken.
He is a shambling unworthy compilation of parts that he has long known he is not worth the sum of.
Who far too many people have sacrificed themselves for.
As if he was ever worth any of it.
However in that moment his Father holds him as if he is.
As if he was comprised of all the precious metals in the known universe.
Something worth protecting.
And Evan, who is weak and who is so so exhausted cannot stop thinking on it.
Cannot help coveting it.
So he keeps coming back, keeps doing this exhaustive dance.
Until one night he falls asleep again but this time his transition to wakefulness does not nearly have such a precious ending.
