We possess within us the ability to live beyond our current circumstances. All we have to do is take the chance and listen to the voice that exist within us. Initially it is very small voice, but the more you listen to it the more it will grow stronger. Often people call it intuition or a gut feeling. I call it inner listening. It is like a soft breeze that blows in the direction of your destiny, a dim light that leads you out of the most darkest abyss. All it it takes is a moment to sit and truly listen. Think of a circumstance in your life, a difficult situation that you can't surpass or overcome. Sit don't think mentally about it, but just listen to your inner self. Find your inner breeze. It will be soft and gentle, low and unassuming gently nudging you in the right direction. All you have to do is listen to it. It can lead you out of any and every difficult situation.
What keeps us from listening to this inner voice. I believe the it the distraction of our daily routines and circumstances our everyday concerns and habits. From morning to night we busy ourselves with outside distractions. These distractions, this white noise prevents us for hearing the voice that generates from our inner selves. It is like the haze of city lights that prevents us from seeing the majesty of the milky way and the brilliance of the stars in the sky.
So how do you you find your inner voice. This is pretty much a simple process.
1. Devote time to yourself
It can be in the morning or evening, just find a time at the beginning or end of the day you can have to yourself. In the beginning you do not need much time to yourself, 10 to 15 minutes will suffice. You can add more minutes overtime. I know some of you are are saying I don't have any time. Well, time is not something you have, but something you make. Besides, you spend more time than that standing in line at a Starbucks waiting to order a mocha latte during lunch time.
Being still can be the most difficult part for most people. I like doing this at the end of the day, laying in bed with the lights off letting the experiences of the day settle in my mind. Each experience is like a stone thrown into your mind's pond, it ripples. By being still, it can settle like a peaceful pond.
3. Ask yourself a question
This can be any question. It can be about life in general or a specific situation. In some occasions, I do not ask myself anything and just lay there and let my mind bring things to my attention that I may not have even thought about.
The worse thing you can do when certain thoughts rise from the stillness of your mental pond is judge them. Judgement often brings a critical element the impedes the freedom of thought. There will be time for critical understanding, but for now, let the ideas flow.
At the end of the 10-15 minutes, write down the thoughts that came to you. You will be surprise about what ideas come to mind. We'll, maybe not so surprised. In my experience, the ideas that come to you during listening sessions were vague thoughts that were there all along in the background of my mind. However it wasn't until I sat still and started listening did they start to fully reveal themselves.
6. Strategize, Make a plan
The ideas that you have written down are the seeds to success and overcoming challenging circumstances in your life. It will take cultivating, analyzing and making strategic plans from these ideas to make them useful in your everyday life. By fleshing them out, you will have a better understanding of what ideas are feasible. Some ideas won't work, while others will be just what you were looking for.
