Relates to establishing a tax on carbon emissions and to establishing the carbon tax revenue fund; establishes an excise tax on carbon-based fuel sold in the state; establishes an initial rate of five dollars per ton of carbon.
Do you live in New York State? Then PLEASE take 15 seconds (seriously, that's all it will take) to vote "AYE" in support on a carbon tax bill making its way through the New York State Senate. This is a big deal, friends. We need to start putting a price tag on carbon pollution. It's the only way to create less of it and spur further growth in renewables. #YEARSproject #PutAPriceOnIt
#Repost @nikkireed ・・・ Good morning! Happy Sunday! By now you probably know that every Sunday I donate my social media to my @YearsofLiving team to talk about carbon pricing! This week's post comes from Ana Rae Miller, a senior at Western Washington University. “I fight for climate justice because I want future generations to grow up in a clean, just and equitable world. Currently, people in power continue to exploit our natural resources and push the negative externalities onto vulnerable populations. We cannot continue to delay action on climate change; we must work to protect the environment and the people who live in it, because everyone deserves the right to a clean climate. That is why I fight to #putapriceonit. We need to put a price on pollution. By implementing solutions for climate justice, we also have the opportunity to bring about positive social changes and strengthen democracy.” #nikkireed #mom #bodhisoleilreedsomerhalder https://www.instagram.com/p/BmGlmJNlCWj/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=96quyyq19wnw
#Repost @nikkireed ・・・ Good morning! Happy Sunday! By now you probably know that every Sunday I donate my social media to my @YearsofLiving team to talk about carbon pricing! This week's post comes from Benedicte Adair, a student leader in upstate New York. Also we’re doing a #youthstepup contest, so please join in! Submissions are due next Friday, Aug. 3rd! “I never really expected to be involved in environmental action. To be honest, I never considered myself an environmentalist before college. I was raised in a community where things like composting and reusable grocery bags were an assumed part of everyday life. Even during my years on the Speech and Debate team, when we researched and prepared environmental arguments, we simply did so because it was an important debate topic. It wasn’t until I was randomly put into Intro to Environmental Studies my first semester when our professor asked us to rank our passion for environmentalism, that I found myself at the top of the list. I was introduced to Our Climate and the #PutAPriceOnIt campaign when a friend invited me to a carbon pricing and lobbying workshop on RIT’s campus earlier this year. Both being former debaters, we knew the science, economics, and politics behind carbon pricing practically by heart. Having met the great and passionate team at Our Climate that day, we both jumped at the opportunity to use the skills we developed from debate to finally make a difference in the world. Since then, I have begun working with them on carbon pricing in New York— including a sending a letter to my state senator in Rochester and making plans for a face to face meeting in the fall. Currently, I'm very excited for the Global Climate Action Summit and Our Climate's #YouthStepUp contest. Learn more about it at www.youthstepup.org and submit your proposal by August 3rd!” #nikkireed
#Repost @iamnikkireed ・・・ Hey guys happy Sunday! By now you probably know that every Sunday I donate my social media to my @YearsofLiving team to talk about carbon pricing! Today's post comes from Madison Hathaway at Portland State University. "Carbon pricing made me fall in love with environmental economics, so getting involved with the Put A Price On It campaign is the first major step that I have taken into my career. I was challenged by a professor in the beginning of 2017 to be more congruent with myself and turn my passions into direct actions. With that nudge, I started working on the Clean Energy Jobs campaign in Oregon (SB 1070) which is being considered by legislators in Salem. Our Climate set core principles that I return to when analyzing various bills and the mechanisms that they use to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. If a carbon pricing bill is not rooted in climate justice, I will not support it. I believe people should always be prioritized over corporate profits. Economic gain is obsolete on an uninhabitable planet. Even though it might seem like an insurmountable task, we can continue to do our best to mitigate the effects of climate change and get our world on a more sustainable path. I am working hard to #PutAPriceOnIt because carbon pricing is one of the best first lines of defense that we can and must execute." #nikkireed #momnikki #somereed
This photo was taken on the way to Dallas, Texas from Oklahoma. Look at those windmills!! You are looking at the future! Fossil fuels are called fossils for a reason- they took millions of years to form and we are using them up. They are going to run out! We have no business continuing destroying this beautiful (one-of-kind) planet 🌎 in search of a finite resource. But the sun ☀️ is still shining and the wind 💨 is blowing! Renewable energy is a rapidly growing industry and it will provide far more jobs than the dirty fossil fuel business. The fight against climate change is a #fightforourlives Which is why it is time to #putapriceonit #savethebees and #govegan !! happy Earth Day everyone ✌🏼 [earth day post -> link in bio] (at Dallas, Texas)

#Repost @iamnikkireed ・・・ Happy Sunday! By now you probably know that every Sunday I donate my social media to my @YearsofLiving team to talk about carbon pricing, so we can learn together! Please please take a second to read this post! It's five minutes out of your Sunday that could help you make a difference, THE DIFFERENCE, the world needs!!! This week is by Jen VanStrander, who is a campaign Fellow and student at Rochester Institute of Technology. ❤ "Climate change is the most pressing issue of our time. It affects everyone. But it disproportionately affects lower-income people, and people who live in places which are not rich in natural resources, such as Indigenous people living on reservations. If we shift our focus to renewable energy sources, we will eliminate the need for things like crude oil pipelines. By putting an effective price on carbon emissions, companies will be economically incentivized to decrease their output of carbon and other greenhouse gasses, and switch to using more renewable sources of energy. This is why I view carbon pricing as a one-and-done way to prevent future pipelines from being installed. I joined the #PutAPriceOnIt campaign because I want to preserve the land and, as Jared Yazzie would say, #SaveWhatWeHaveLeft. The Earth is our mother, the fresh water is her veins. Let’s work together and treat her better. Let’s put a price on it!" #nikkireed #yearsofliving
