YES. I saw the Sherlock sociopath article earlier today and was debating posting it but decided against it because I didn't want fandom wank thrown my way. That's always bugged me because of how often the fans like to quote it, otherwise I would have just shrugged it off as a poorly researched line on the writers part (which is what I initially did).
The line is so witty, so snappy - so wrong. It really means nothing and it's glaring that it would come out of Sherlock's mouth (I mean yes, suspension of disbelief, but still!). Also, I have to say, I'm really not sure what high-functioning has to do with sociopathy. Being described as high-functioning is usually reserved for people with disorders that might affect their neural development, like autism. Sociopathy/psychopathy is a personality disorder and thus would have minimal impact on neurological abilities, so it's not like there are "low-functioning" sociopaths simply by virtue of their sociopathy. Referring to himself as "high-functioning" is meaningless. (if there are people around who are better versed than I am in this, feel free to let me know if I'm incorrect)
Again, it's just a line, but yeah, it's regarded as one of Sherlock's best, snappiest lines when really, it's one of the show's worst... It's poorly researched gibberish. AH WELLZ
