Two Wednesdays before Thanksgiving my students sat down for the annual Thanksgiving luncheon. There were little spills with much merriment. As is only natural when the derivative of merry is involved the topic turned to the holiday season Christmas. It starts earlier every year.
Can we let the turkeys be killed before we delve into all encompassing commercialism? If you read this blog (thank you) I assume you share this view or at least a general uneasiness with the taste of social and media cues this time of year. By this time of year I do not mean late autumn, though, if you have the time do try and get outdoors. The air is so crisp right now. And clean.
Our dear friends over at Putz Disc have put together a compilation for that time of year when neighbors crush each other for deals that will be thrown away next year like Cabbage Patch Kids and Chia Pets from the years before. Wishful Thinking at Christmas Time makes no claims of saving you from esphyxiation on Black Friday or refunding your week's paycheck from Cyber Monday. No, this compilation is just a hope from Putz Disc that we all can take a moment to reflect during this time. There is no sweeter feat than contemplating existential questions across a frosted landscape. Only then will you realize the perfect gift for that special someone.
All snark aside, Wishful Thinking at Christmas Time searches the archives for a collection of Christmas songs that seem to capture why it is we each, regardless of denomination, rejoin this mess each year. I have my own thoughts and reasoning on this question. Instead of trying to articulate these I ask instead you download the compilation, gather your friends/family/loved ones, and let these sixteen tracks soundtrack your holiday season.
