Why it is Essential to Upgrade the Pipe System in India
India is known for its agricultural products and byproducts, which strengthened the economy over time. The country heavily depends on the weather variations and monsoons for a profitable harvest. Irrigation became the backbone of the agricultural industry, which enabled farmers to save water and use it efficiently. The development of the economy resulted in a huge revolution in the housing and manufacturing sectors. But the pipe system, which forms an integral part of infrastructure remained the same as the agricultural sector. Although cement pipes were effective, the costs and efforts involved and the durability caused trouble for the users.
Development across different sectors paved the way for a better pipe system that can withstand the test of time at an economical cost. Cast iron pipes replaced the cement pipes, which proved to be the better replacement. However, it came with a host of challenges. The cast-iron pipes corroded easily and it posed the risk of degrading the water quality in the drinking water facilities. Iron corrosion is characterized by the corruption of metal due to oxidization or chemical action. Corrosion of iron pipes will lead to the hosting of bacterias and viruses, which causes health problems.
Another challenge that users of cast iron pipes faced was the cost and effort factors. Although cast iron pipes lasted for years, due to its heavy body it was difficult to install the pipes and it had to be checked at regular intervals to maintain its integrity. Especially in the drinking pipe system, cast iron pipes are required to be monitored frequently, a failure of which can affect the taste and odor of the water quality. In the agricultural sector, it was noted that cast iron pipes lost its strength in harsh conditions and caused soil erosion. The overall cost of maintaining cast iron pipes was burdensome to users.
With the invention of PVC material, PVCO pipes came into usage. The Molecularly oriented polyvinyl chloride or the OPVC pipes are considered to be the best choice to upgrade the pipe system. The PVC pipes are durable in nature, which can withstand extreme temperatures. Unlike the cast iron pipes, PVCO pipes do not get corroded or cause a chemical reaction. PVCO pipes last for a long time and need minimum maintenance. Upgrading the pipe system to PVCO can greatly benefit the users and decrease the cost and effort factors.
