The other woman’s words are heard, and yet they almost seem to fall upon deaf ears— even if that is not the case in the slightest. Emeralds hues seem… fixated on something in the distance, and yet not at the same time. It’s almost as if she’s in a trace, brought upon by those very words that still rang loudly in her ears.
A better woman? The mere thought of being anything other than what she actually was almost made her want to laugh, albeit bitterly. It was true she was a decent person in her own right, all things considered… Yet still the doubt lingered, gripping her form from within. There were reasons, so many reasons in fact, why she had made her home in Abyss long ago. It had been a sanctuary in her eyes; home, if it could truly be called that.
But now she’d left it all behind—back into a world where being her ‘true’ self would be dangerous, not just to herself but to others as well. Was she really willing to risk hurting people again all for the sake of attempting to live a normal life? Apparently so.
Thin brows knitted together while she stayed lost in thought for a few moments longer, before finally a sigh escaped as she turned to stare at Dorothea. “I’d like to believe that, missy. I really would.” There’s a long drawn out pause then as she lifts a hand to awkward rub her neck, before Fang finally speaks up again. “It’s just— do you think that’s actually possible? Bein’ a better woman, I mean. I want to be better, to do better even, I just… don’t think I have it in me sometimes.”
dorothea leaves fang to her contemplation, but not her demons. those she’ll strike down, and without a moment’s hesitation.
“ whether you believe it or not, ” she says kindly, “ changes nothing. you’re the same person, regardless, and that person is no less worthy to be here than the rest of us. no less worthy to walk the sunlight, whenever she wishes. ”
for the abyss is an unholy place, where no human should have to make their home. every abyssian here deserves to know what light on their skin is like, and know that it’s something to have in more than just portions. stay too long in the dark, and you forget your humanity.
fang has that, in abundance. she just needs some help remembering.
“ no need to overthink it, fang. the fact that you want to be better is proof enough that you have it in you. the final step is in allowing yourself to do so. without the guilt. without the hatred. ”

“Curse or no, pain or no, the form itself is still not truly have anything at all to do with the the forms physical appeal, as for the curse as you call it, well torments aside the power is yours, you decide if it’s a curse or a blessing not the ones who made you. The path to power for mortals is rarely pleasant after all.” He wasn’t belittling her torments, he believed that for her they were the worst of the worst, even so the quaking of the land with her tail didn’t even affect him, not emotionally with intimidation or physically, as the shaking of the ground he didn’t even shift, his body remaining stationary as the earth heaved beneath him.
“Besides, I would be remiss if I didn’t point out that I said more appealing then the other’s I’ve seen prior to you, that isn’t the same as saying that the form itself is simply appealing.” He was very careful with his words around beings like her, not because he feared them but because he didn’t want to simply shun them, push them away, and ruin any chance at some fun in the future by being needlessly rude.
Walking up to her he casually reached out, and touched that scalded imperfect skin, imperfection that in his eyes was a sign of strength many could never hope to show, there was no force in his touch, no fear, no hesitation as he moved. But when his hand pulled away, just like that, she was suddenly human sized, and instantly had the knowledge within her to shift between the size of a human and her full form. A small gift, since it wasn’t a bargain, though it did make it a bit easier to communicate for most to be of similar stature. “A query if I may Ragnarok, what is your true name? The one you used before this.”

“I knew you were gonna say that.” Choosing truth would have been admitting to being a PUSSY. ASS. BITCH. & Emily wasn’t the type to be UNDERSTANDING & SYMPATHETIC about that kinda shit. Oh, no, no. She woulda rubbed it in Fang’s face forever. So, here they were. Right where the brunette liked to be. IN CONTROL. “Uhh..” Head lulled backwards. Dark eyes rolling to the side in deep contemplation. What did she want to force her POOR VICTIM to do? There were just so many options & she needed to make it count. Cause after this, it would be Fang’s turn to ask & she’d HAVE to say dare. (Pride wouldn’t allow her to back down). “I got it!” Pushing out of the chair, she wobbled ever-so-slightly due to the alcohol BURNING through her circulatory-system --- “I dare you to kiss...” Pause for suspense & a DEVIOUS GLINT in obsidian pools --- “My ass!” Twist on the heels of designer boots & she gave her jean-clad derriere a pat.
“ are you paying attention ? ” she asked as she glanced towards the older, tapping the pages of the textbook with her fingernail. “ we have to learn this if we want to pass the exam. ”

“Do my eyes deceive me or is there a mighty familiar face standing before my very eyes after all this time? It’s not nice to keep your friends waiting, you know!”

Wait for it...
Vanille inhaled slowly and stood absolutely still, carefully ignoring the plethora of Pulsian bugs that landed on her as she concentrated with all her might.
Just a moment longer... and... NOW!
With a jolt the wires inside her wand came zipping out of their sockets and into the river below. A flurry of bugs, startled by the movement, whipped around in the air.
❛ ...No way! I missed it again? ❜
She couldn’t believe it. She had moved a moment too late, and the fish she had her eyes on ― sensing her presence ― got away once more. Reeling her weapon back, she huffed and thought about how few contributions she’d made to the hunting parties the past few days. As Fang would say, Lady Luck was not on her side at all.
Speaking of, I wonder where Fang is now? Vanille had hoped that Fang would be finished up with her hunt for the day by now. But knowing Fang, she was probably still going, catching every last monster Gran Pulse had to offer. She was always better at catching fish and other little creatures for the village than Vanille had ever dreamed of being.
A proud smile grew across Vanille’s flushed cheeks. She couldn’t wait to congratulate her friend when she came back. ❛ Maybe we could even celebrate together afterward, ❜ she wondered out loud, forgetting her earlier losses for a moment. She loved to get time alone with her best friend like they’d had so much of when they were younger, and tonight seemed like the perfect opportunity. The thought excited her so much, in fact, that she didn’t notice the ugallu sneaking up behind her ― drool dripping from its bared teeth...
