❝ would that not imply you were not sexy before ? ❞
she melts, dorothea does, all around sypha, arms encircling her shoulders and smile buried into her cheek. “ syphaaaaa ~ that was the sweetest thing you’ve ever said to me. why don’t you say things like this more ... ”
* elementier :
sypha pauses, a hand atop her mouth in contemplation. ❝ are you —— possessed ? ❞
dorothea thinks it over, blinking. “ ... by sexiness, yes. ”

& she wanted to be unforgettable she wanted to be a memory a wound to every man arragant enough to want her

❛ a … fanta-sea hotel ? ❜ cue muffled snickering.
followed by even more snickering, and hiccuping giggles. puns are cute only when luxanna is the one saying them.
“ would that be the kind of hotel we’re in right now, luxie. if i lie back and soak my body in enough of the hot waters, maybe i could convince myself of that. join me ! ”
the year was 1986. he was a teenager like any other–dreaming of his heroes and in love with a girl.

“ what kind of five star hotel is just ––– a pond with rocks around it ? ”

Dorothea is stronger than she looks. Or perhaps he’s simply weaker. Exhaustion has worn him down, sapping him of what little strength he typically has. He shifts, testing the grip she has on his wrists. Not about to be broken easily. Hubert relents, a breath leaving him as he tips his head back, looking at her over his shoulder. The wall she has him forced against isn’t much to look at.
“You have my attention, Dorothea,” he says, keeping his voice even. His fingers burn, he’s drained himself. But… he might be able to manage the slightest spark. Were she anyone else, he already would have. Admittedly, he’s… curious. “What is this about? If you’ve been tasked with taking me to bed, I can’t say that this is the best approach.”
“ i beg to differ. ”
dorothea knows a thing about force, and how effective it can be towards getting what one wants. she also knows how to snap a man’s arm in a blink, but this is hubert and she’s never wanted to hurt him for as long as she’s known him. not even once.
this is merely a statement, half electric and iron gripped, dorothea nudging at hubert’s chin until she can burrow herself in the crook there. their heights make it easy for her to curl into him ; their position makes it natural to push hubert further into the wall.
face buried in his collar, dorothea inhales.
“ go to bed, hubie. ”
then plucks a dagger hidden in his sleeve on the exhale.
“ i think i’m growing tired of asking you to zero results. ”
* OCEANBRINGS
Casually looks around.
she situates herself in such a way that dorothea’s body blocks the sight of edelgard, caspar and petra all thumping at linhardt’s back, trying to get him to hack up what horrid and possibly detrimental thing he’s just ingested. while this may be par for the course with her class, she’d rather their introduction be a little more dignified.
“ would you like a tour of the grounds ? ” asks dorothea, beaming. “ we have some very lovely ponds and a fantastic garden. ”
* ASHENOBLE
her inquiry resonates a query that’s lain dormant for as long as she endured the years. a legacy of sorcery / a legacy of lies / a legacy she sought to transform through her own merits. perhaps, it is fear that drives her; perhaps, it is the lingering sense of disappointment – or perhaps it is the drive for a purpose to live because otherwise she fear that she would merely be a walking corpse from the wreckage that wrought upon her family.
“ my mother, my father, and my brother died for the sake of the emperor… and i am all that is left of my house. i must restore my house otherwise… otherwise i cannot face my ancestors or my parents who protected me with their lives. my house cannot end with me – i am all that is left. it is my responsibility to pass on their legacy.”
a weight on her shoulders, the tension is palpable. her mind trails to the last sight of her family before she disappeared into the white clouds. it weighs heavy on her and yet, it is precisely such weighty matters that reminds her that she must carry on.
“… and that is why i will show lady edelgard i am a valuable asset to have at her beck and call. i will make her ambitions into reality, ahaha…! ”
she quickly defers to levity and optimism, in fear of lingering on her feelings for too long.
a strange thing, legacy ––– how it’s an anchor for some, and wings for others. if only dorothea was the kind who could let the ghosts of the dead guide her, and not haunt her instead. but maybe that’s where it matters : dorothea’s ghosts have faces of her enemies, all screaming at her ; constance’s ghosts are her family members, and they are gentler. they are rooting for her.
or so dorothea likes to imagine, but what a lovely thought it is. ghosts as guidance. hands of those long gone still there, catching you when you fall, pushing you up if you find your own legs failing you. ( rise, they say. you must always rise again. )
dorothea smiles out of reflex ( for what else can she do when constance laughs, forced as it feels ) but it drops just as quickly. holding onto smiles is becoming more difficult, as days pass.
breathing in deeply, dorothea forces her breath to leave her in a slow exhale.
“ that, i can begin to understand. for you, it’s about survival, isn’t it ? you want your name to be in the history books to show you were there ––– that you, and your house, meant something. ”
oh, but she understands that perfectly. dorothea’s lips twist, neither smile nor grimace.
“ although, i have to say ... i know this is very bold of me, but i think your family would accept you, even if you didn’t accomplish those things, connie. i ––– i didn’t know them, of course. ”
she so rarely stumbles over her words but here she is, nerves squeezing at her lungs, tongue doing a dance all on their own. her cheeks burn, yet dorothea pushes onward, always.
“ ––– but if they were anything like you ... well. i think as you are is worth a lot. no house and all. ”
* ROSEGOLDENBOY
Ferdinand’s temper flares again. “I don’t understand you!” he exclaims, throwing his hands up. Find the edge in himself? What kind of riddle is that supposed to be? What did she mean by collateral?
“Why won’t you speak straight with me? How am I supposed to change anything if you won’t tell me what it is I’m doing wrong?”
lips pinched tight, she grits out, “ you never have, ferdie. ” then, quieter still, gaze averted, “ you almost never do ... ”
she can practically hear it, the indiscernible creak of someone leaning forward in their chair. the audience is a quiet one but they are there, teeth out, vultures at the ready for all this blood. dorothea runs a hand down her hair, breath leaving her in one long sigh.
contemplation doesn’t suit her, but neither does the weight of knowledge and how it haunts her eyes. nevertheless, she must persist.
“ ... what makes you think, ferdie, that you have done anything wrong ? ”
* CHOPPERPIRATE
Chopper frowned softly as she subtly hinted toward having murdered people in the past. The thought of such a nice lady being so dangerous terrified the doctor, as he didn’t want to get into any fights today. “Oh… I’m Chopper. You won’t kill me, right?”
dorothea’s jaw drops, slightly. snap. all her earlier levity, gone like that.
“ what ? no, no, of course not ! why would you think that, chopper ? ”
so my favorite genre of book is currently “sketchy gays do bad things for redeemable reasons”
