The sky filled with bursts of colors while I was taking photos of my first coverage of the Philippine International Pyromusical Competition held at the Mall of Asia bay area last February. I was amazed, astonished to its wonder. Witnessing the fireworks at the VIP area for free. A simple perk I enjoyed being a news photographer. The fireworks synced to its accompanied music, mostly Pop. The crowd cheered, their cameras, smart phones, and tablets were held up to capture it majestic beauty.
So I’m here again to share my photos and also to give you some tips on how to take photos of fireworks.
1. Get a good location. Anticipate where the fireworks would burst.
2. Don’t forget to bring a tripod and set your camera on it. It would help you to take long exposure photos of fireworks. Also to avoid blurred photos.
3. Check your camera settings.
Set your focus to infinity.
Use a smaller aperture. You may use F8 to F16. In my photos,I just use an aperture of F11 at ISO 200.
Keep your shutter open as soon as you see the fireworks shooting into sky until it bursts. Around 4 to 6 seconds will do but that still depends on the situation. Use your best judgement. Also set your shutter speed in BULB (B) mode. DSLR cameras have that setting. I recommend you to have a cable release to avoid hand shake, making your photos sharp.
Hope you enjoy my short tutorial!
