𝐋𝐔𝐊𝐄  𝐇𝐀𝐃  𝐁𝐄𝐄𝐍  𝐇𝐔𝐌𝐁𝐋𝐄𝐃  𝐔𝐏𝐎𝐍  𝐀𝐑𝐑𝐈𝐕𝐈𝐍𝐆  𝐀𝐓  𝐓𝐇𝐄  𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐄  𝐂𝐀𝐒𝐓𝐋𝐄 .  He’d  crossed  the  threshold  with  his  pitiful ,  little  orchid ,  like  a  suburban  neighbor  dropping  off  a  housewarming  gift ,  with  the  young  apprentice  hot  on  his  heels .  The  small  girl  had  thrown  pointed  questions  at  him  like  they  were  darts ,  aiming  to  pin  him  down  with  the  right  one .  No  doubt ,  the  obscure  abode  saw  few  visitors  IMPOSE  themselves  on  its  keeper’s  hospitality ,  and  his  attempts  to  weasel  around  the  truth  had  her  considering  edging  him  back  out  the  front  door .  But  his  honesty  had  limits  beneath  his  curse ,  so  he’d  claimed  to  be  a  messenger  from  Olympus ,  there  to  see  the  witch  ––  he’d  heard  some  refer  to  her  as  Hecate  ––  who  resided  there ,  offering  to  pitch  in  with  the  chores  while  he  waited .

As  he  helped  scrub  the  plates  stacked  in  the  sink ,  Luke  noted  how  small  the  room  actually  was .  There  was  little  more  to  it  than  a  fireplace ,  kitchen  area ,  and  small  workspace  littered  with  books  and  colorful  vials .  It  could  have  been  the  servants’  quarters ,  he  realized ,  which  only  made  the  anxiety  fluttering  in  the  pit  of  his  stomach  worse .  What  if  he’d  only  been  allowed  inside ,  because  he’d  NEVER  encounter  the  elusive  witch  there  to  begin  with ?  He  tried  to  shake  that  thought  loose  before  it  could  take  hold ,  returning  to  his  work  while  the  apprentice  fiddled  with  some  of  the  vials  on  the  table .

The  sun  had  nearly  vanished  behind  the  window  frame ,  when  the  door  creaked  open .  Luke  peered  over  with  a  start ,  recognizing  his  rescuer  from  the  alleyway  immediately .   ❝   Uh  ––  hey .   ❞   His  plan  flew  out  the  window ,  heart  hammering  against  his  chest .   ❝   I  never  had  the  chance  to  properly  thank  you  the  other  day .  Wasn’t  sure  I’d  run  into  you  again .   ❞

All around the sound of laughter blending with the beat of lyre & drum, couples joining hands as they move around the flames, a swirl of vibrant colour before his eyes. The sweet wine tainting his lips encouraging strident steps across the dewy grass, pulse fluttering as he stops before the stablehand. Clutched between fingers a wreath of crocus & primrose, rowan twigs weaved with butter yellow ribbon in an intricate circle ; the crown offered then with a humble smile, words tripping over their syllables in an uncharacteristic display of nerves.  ❛ I was wondering, perhaps, if you would care to dance ? ❜

SECRETS SHARED BETWEEN THEM, are whispered so that only they can hear it ( and the trees -- the trees can hear all ). His back leans against the hard rock wall of the caves that they’ve been calling home for the week leading up to battle. He’s been so focused on saving Narnia, he’d almost forgotten that she kept looking at him the same way he looked at her. They need to be in their own worlds -- he crafting warfare and she prepared to ascend.

But for now it is just them. It is just them and the maps that lay on broken stone many steps away. The others are all above ground, preparing themselves for supper. She should join them he’d tried to say, still trying to figure out what was going wrong here. But Scarlett had other plans and oh he had forgotten that his STAR could be so mischievous.

“ did you now? ” His lips curl as he realizes she had literally pressed his body back against the stone wall. She is BEAUTY and splendor and the HIGH KING would be silly to feel anything other than desperation to close the small gap she’s leaving between them. His eyes are so soft as they look adoringly down at her. He hadn’t learned any SPECIAL tricks while on Earth to woo the literal star of his heart. But it seems she was prepared to pull out all of hers.
