→ summary: A new face on campus strikes an opportunity for Changmin to take another chance at love. Although the relationship heats up fast, it boils over at the same rate, will their love be able to cool down for the long run?
It was so much easier to be bold and brave behind a phone screen. Of course Ara wanted to go on this date with Changmin, but she didn’t expect it so soon. It was like her fingers had a mind of their own when they texted him that she’d meet him at his place at 7 to go on a date. Her heart pounded as she watched the clock countdown minute by minute. She’d gotten ready 2 hours early; that’s how anxious she was. They’d never hung out alone before, so she was afraid how tonight would go.
She liked him way more than she liked to admit. Her heart fluttered at the mere thought of him. She jumped when his name popped onto her phone. To her, he was a walking dream. His eyes sparkled and his smile beamed. His laugh was music to her ears. She drifted off in her thoughts about him and before she knew it, it was time to meet him.
Her legs felt like jello as she walked down the hall to his apartment and she couldn’t stop her hands from sweating. They shook as she reached out to knock on the wooden door. Before her fist could make contact, the door swung open. Changmin stood in the door frame, wearing a t-shirt, jeans and sneakers.
“Hey,” He said as he shoved his hands into his pockets.
“Hi,” She replied looking toward the ground in attempt to hide the flush on her cheeks.
He leaned down to meet her wavering eyes and chuckled, “I know this really great ramen place near here. I want to take you there, if that’s okay with you.”
He didn’t know her but he knew her so well at the same time. Ramen, or any noodles for that matter, was Ara’s favorite. Knowing that they were going to eat her favorite food put her a little more at ease. The place was hidden in an alley a couple blocks down from campus so they walked there. It was small but cozy, perfect for a first date. By the time they arrived, Ara’s nerves settled down. This happened the first time they met in the study room too; she was nervous and jittery at first but as soon as they started talking, all of that just seemed to melt away.
“Can I be honest?” Changmin swirled the straw in his glass of water.
She nodded her head yes and he continued, “I can’t believe we’re on this date. I mean look at you, you’re beautiful.”
Ara felt the blood rush to her cheeks again and fumbled her straw wrapper, “I could say the same for you.”
He laughed, “Me? Beautiful? That’s a first, but thank you.”
She threw the straw wrapper at him and laughed, “I’m serious! How are all the girls around here not all over you?”
He cleared his throat, “I don’t know. Nothing’s ever worked out, I guess.”
Ara’s eyes narrowed, “Go on...”
“Well, my ex and I were together for a year or so and I thought it was going well and getting serious, but she got bored and didn’t want to be tied down anymore so she broke it off. Ever since then, I just haven’t found anyone I’m like really interested, until you, ” He cracked that smile that she loved so much.
They caught each other’s gaze and stared deeply into each other’s eyes. The small booth they sat in left them in such a close proximity; they could feel their breath fanning over each other’s faces. The warmth made Ara’s skin tingle. A part of him wanted to reach out to stroke her cheek but he resisted the urge, fearing that it might be too soon to show that much affection. The waiter interrupted the moment when he brought their bowls of food.
They stirred their bowls in silence and took bites of their dinner until Changmin nonchalantly asked about her love life, “What about you? I’m surprised a pretty girl like you doesn’t have men waiting in line for their chance with you.”
She looked up with a raised eyebrow and a smirk, “How do you know that I don’t have a line of men waiting for me?”
“Then I must’ve forgotten to take a number a wait my turn,” He shrugged his shoulders innocently.
She winked at him, “Consider yourself lucky, mister.”
His teeth came over his bottom lip as he stared at how the broth of the soup left her lips glossy and tinted them the most teasing shade of red. He followed her tongue as they swiped the corners of her mouth and across the inside of her mouth. The front of his jeans was suddenly tighter, “Trust me, I do.”
“Seriously though, we’re in the same boat. I also tried my hand at a relationship and there was just too many differences so we went our separate ways. I guess we could’ve tried to work things out, but I really didn’t think it was worth it. Remember how I told you I moved universities because it sucked? Yeah, he was one of the reasons why. He spread these awful rumors about me across campus and I just had to get out of there,” Her smiled faded as she thought back to all the times she had to hide her face any time she walked on campus.
“Oh wow, I’m sorry. At least you’re here now, I’d never treat you that way,” He held her hand and used his thumb to rub her knuckles.
Her smile returned, “I guess I can consider myself lucky too.”
Their dinner date had them feeling full and fuzzy. They walked back to campus holding hands, giggling and cracking jokes the whole way. Everything came so natural, Ara wondered why she had been so anxious before because she felt so comfortable now as she leaned into his arm. Changmin adored her; he held her hand and never wanted to let it go. He admired the way her hair shined under the moonlight and the way her laugh echoed on the empty streets. It was too perfect, he felt like he was in a dream.
They arrived at her door and stood face to face. He towered over her small frame and his scent mixed with the smell of ramen surrounded her as she drowned in his brown eyes for the nth time that night. With a soft sigh, she reaches up for hold his face, enjoying the way his cheeks molded to the palm of her hands. His arms wrapped around her waist and pulls her close for a kiss.
“You feel like a dream,” He breathed when he pulled away from their first kiss.
They kissed again; it was slow at first, their lips moving gently against each others’. Once they got used to the feeling, Ara wasted no time gripping handfuls of his hair and pushed her tongue past his lips. Changmin’s hands moved lower to cup and squeeze her behind and she couldn’t help but whimper. They held each other close, so close that Ara could feel his growing arousal pressing against her stomach.
It was like they were hormone-filled teenagers all over again but they could care less. The arousal clearly clouded their judgement. He teased her with his teeth, pulling at her swollen red lips. Her moans only fueled him further; his mouth moved to ravish her neck. Wet kisses were placed along her neck, everywhere his mouth touched set Ara ablaze with burning desire.
“I think that’s enough for tonight,” She panted and peeled his body from hers.
He stood up straight and ran his hand through his hair as she fiddled with the key in the lock. They had been so absorbed in each other that they forgot that they were making out in the hallway for everyone to see. She leaned against the open door and admired him. His hair was ruffled, his chest heaved slightly and his lips wet and plump. He reminded her of a bewildered puppy. So cute.
He shoved his hands back in his pockets and rocked back and forth on his heels, “Well...that was fun.”
Ara chuckled in agreement, “We should definitely do this again soon.”
