Q.E.D headcanon, explanation edition:

(It's about this headcanon)

My reasoning about Mizuhara and Touma's nicknames as a part of the Mystery Club Lovers tradition is as it follows:

(Light spoilers for Kimi wa Nazotoki no Ma Chérie)

The nicknames are taken from different detective/mystery media, following the logic of the Queen-Holmes-Mulder trio;

Kimi wa Nazotoki no Ma Chérie is a manga by Natsume Ito starring Hoshino Mitsuko (Mimi) as the protagonist in 1930s Ginza;

Poirot is the most famous detective created by Agatha Christie.

Mizuhara Kana -> Mimi:

They're both determinated, confident in their ways (for the most part, there's specific chapters for that in both mangas) and I know Kana's strengh is more of the physical type but, if she were in Mitsuko's shoes (first female detective in a time where women were just starting to work outside the home), she most definitely would have what it takes. If there's a goal, they will get there;

They have a very similar sense of justice and empathy, and genuinely want to help the people from their cases;

There's a intelligent boy from a rich family doing whatever she wants, going wherever she wants, using connections and random knowledge from his studies/background to help solve every single mystery that falls into her hands. The boy has a communication issue with his sibling. The dynamic between the mangas' respective duos is not the same but, c'mon. You can't differentiate Touma and Saku unless I use their names (He also came this -> ‐‐ close to getting shot);

Both their fathers are in the police force (are very different people, though);

Kana's surname is Mizuhara, solid ground for Mimi as a nickname;

Also, Mitsuko does have a bit of a temper. Their difference is that Kana acts on it;

As a final argument, there's a few minor details, like wearing a maid outfit at some point, having an astronomy-related chapter, etc.

Touma Sou -> Poirot:

I imagined a scene of someone going, "Poirot, that sounds good" then Touma correcting, "It's pronounced Poirot" and I laughed so much inside my head because I saw it in words, just like this, not in images nor sounds;

The Agatha Christie's books I have that include Poirot have a little detail in common. In Death on the Nile, he's on vacation when someone dies and he has to solve the mystery. In Murder on the Orient Express, he's coming back from a case when someone dies and he has to solve the mystery. In Peril at the End House, he's on vacation -- summing it up:

Detective Hercule Poirot can't ever be in peace, everywhere he goes someone gets killed and he has to work. That’s Touma's life right there, just with Kana as the intermediary.

To wrap things up, all three of the medias are great, and I recommend them a million times over. Ma Chérie is beautifully constructed and more focused on the human side of things while Q.E.D is on the resolution/concepts applied to it (with plenty of human moments as well). Agatha Christie is Agatha Christie, no more needs to be said.

Q.E.D Headcanon:

Seeing as both Mizuhara and Touma are, at least on paper, part of the Mystery Lovers Club, they were thus ordained by Queen to have nicknames as well. Touma's alias is Poirot, from Agatha Christie's books, and Mizuhara's called Mimi, from the Kimi wa Nazotoki no Ma Cherie manga.
