Back in 2012, I tried to make a comic about a mage finding her way in the world.  That comic was entitled LIGHT OF DAWN. If you're following me, there's a good chance that's the reason why given its crazy roller coaster of reception at the time. The project had a Kickstarter. Then it died. Then it kinda blew up on Tumblr after the fact. Then it died again. Bummer.

While I did my damndest to make it work, it just wasn't meant to be for a multitude of reasons and I left the idea behind to focus on other projects. One of them being TEMPLATE, which went on to become one of Comixology Submit's first standouts. If you haven't tried that out, by the way, it's now free on Comixology Unlimited. From there I went on to do XENO TRIP and my other new series that launched just last month, THE COLD WAVE. So I've certainly stayed busy.

But LIGHT OF DAWN was always 'the one that got away' for me. I absolutely hated that it never got off the ground. And I never really stopped thinking about all of the missed potential for that concept. It's taken five years, but the time has finally come to revisit it.

I present to you SPELLCHECKED.

Featuring some of the same themes as LIGHT OF DAWN with the added benefit of me having more years of comics writing experience, SPELLCHECKED is an evolution of what I wanted to do back then to better reflect my voice/sensibilities now. It's beautifully drawn by Mauricio Campetella, with colors by Paul John Little and letters by Ken Reynolds. And you won't have to wait long to check it out. Here's the synopsis:

SPELLCHECKED #1 launches June 21 on ComiXology for only $0.99. No Kickstarters. No campaigns. None of that. It's happening. Our initial arc is going to be three issues, and whether we go past that is completely based on reception/sales. So like, tweet, share, signal boost, pigeon carry or whatever you have to do to get the message out to support it. But no matter where you are, use #qamspellchecked so we're able to see it.
