I wish I had a good defense of her being trans, but I really don't. It's just hard to think of a good explanation for why she would be the only resident of the seaside town of Cauldron who's trans, and likewise hard to think of a good explanation for why GG would portray her as a "regular" woman, whose most bizarre behavior gets talked about as one of her very "strange" flaws, if she were in fact cis and if GG were trying to present a trans woman as "normal." The textual evidence is meager and far from conclusive, and I am leery of doing "vibe" readings on the basis of almost-entirely-textual cues.
