Wei Wuxian is the head disciple of the Qinghe Nie Sect AU - Meng Yao POV
I saw a concept post from @poprocksromance and let’s just say I was inspired. Here’s an excerpt that just came to me in the middle of the night, because I really couldn’t resist.
At least Wei Wuxian was the Head Disciple of the Qinghe Nie Sect. At least Wei Wuxian was personally raised by Second Madame Nie when she was still alive. At least Wei Wuxian was still one of the Top Five Eligible Young Masters in their generation. Wei Wuxian left an impression on everyone he met, with his smiling face and over-eager personality. It was like he was born smiling, born to be loved, born to be amazing.
Meng Yao was hardly family, feeling more like a homeless cat the Nies had taken in and fed from time to time. Meng Yao was raised in a brothel, and was publicly rejected by his birth father and thrown down the stairs on his birthday. Meng Yao hardly managed to form a golden core at all, and what he had was so weak, it was laughable. Meng Yao didn’t deserve to be loved. It wasn’t his fault, he was just born that way.
No one even said much when Wei Wuxian clearly overshadowed Nie Huaisang in just about everything short of having legible handwriting. No one dared to debate whether or not Nie Huaisang should be allowed his status as the sect heir. Because Nie Huaisang was gentle and playful. Nie Huaisang was born to be babied and sheltered, spending his time painting fans or following Wei Wuxian around to play tricks. Nie Huaisang was Old Sect Leader Nie’s legitimate second son, with his legitimate second wife. Meng Yao didn’t blame his brothers for any of this. They were just born that way, just like he was.
But suddenly, standing beside Wei Wuxian in the Lanshi, surrounded by young masters and sect disciples that were all much more capable than him, much more worthy than him...Meng Yao felt insignificant. He didn’t belong here, not at all. He hated that feeling.
