How do you explain hallucinations to your parents? I've been hearing voices & seeing things for a while and I don't know what to do. It's very scary and I'm afraid they'll think I'm joking. Tag me as Qoop!
Hey there butterfly,
Well, there are a number of ways that you can bring this upto your parents! I know how hard it can be to say it out loud, but to combat the difficulty of doing that, you canalways write a letter. I tried to first ask my parents for help by writing aletter, and it really did help! I didn’t end up giving it to them because longstory short I somehow ended up telling my mom in person, but it really did helpme to get my feelings out and organize what I wanted to say. You can give thisletter to your parents in person or send it in the form of email or putting iton their bed or desk where they will see it and read it. It can be easier togive it to them so this way you don’t have to worry about being interruptedwhen you’re trying to speak.
However, face-to-facecommunication is normally the most clear because this way your parents can’tmisunderstand what you’re trying to say. I think that if you call a familymeeting and ask all of them to sit down and bring up what you’ve beenexperiencing, they will take you seriously. You could even let them know beforeyou said anything by telling them that you need to have a serious discussionwith them about something important. They will most likely listen to what youhave to say. Not all parents understand hallucinations, so try to make it clearto them that this is not something you can control. You may want to researchhallucinations and show your parents what you found on a print-out or such.
Treatment forhallucinations usually will involve a psychological evaluation at first, because hallucinations can be symptoms of many mental illnesses. You will needto see a mental health professional, and the easiest way to do this is to go toyour general physician and let them know what’s going on. They can refer you toa mental health professional who can diagnose and treat you.
If your parents do not agreeto get you psychological help, try telling another trusted adult like a schoolcounsellor if you are still in school, a clergy member, youth leader, friend’sparent, etc. I am so, so so so SOOOOOproud of you for wanting to seek help! This is really scary to go through andyou don’t deserve to go through this without getting the proper help you need.
You do not have to sufferin silence. There is hope.
I believe in you,

Item of work 02 : Eden by QOOP
The branding of Eden, a company that makes wooden iphone back-plates by the german design studio QOOP is inspiring but also made me think about issues that often come with this area of the industry.
One of the skills at the very center of branding is definitely logo design, which i find quite mind-boggling because my first reaction when seeing a logo is to immediately have an opinion on it and then I struggle to express it in a logical way. For example with this one I would say that I find it too broad (too large?) and with weird empty spaces but is your opinion really valid if you can just express by "weird" ?
It's tricky because that's the public's reaction as well (to automatically have an opinion) and it's tiny details of proportions and looks that you have to think about so that people look at it and think "that looks right".
Logo are all about expressing values and identity through limited design means (a small logotype) but it has to be extremely direct and "natural feeling".
Here again with the attention to detail that I appreciate in packaging : the use of natural paper to link with the natural values that come with having a wood back-plate and like they mentioned on the website, to have the logo embossed into the cardboard. But seeing the cardboard plate that presents the items made me think about another issue in packaging : over packaging and the strong environmental responsibility that comes with this area of the industry, even more strongly than 2D design.
Packaging is a big part of our consumerist society and most of the time it's not the actual product, just the stuff that surrounds it to make it easier to ship/sell/present on a shelf. People will eventually throw it out and if you do it wrong it will end up as litter or in landfills, aggravating the pollution problem.
So I guess I would add environmental awareness as another skill essential to branding.
What materials are recyclable and even further, which ones are easily recyclable everywhere? Which inks are bad for the environment? There's probably a myriad of others questions that need considering that I can't even think of.
To take this further (and deviating from green concerns) which materials are associated with what by the public? It's quite obvious that wood and cardboard are associated with nature and earthy tones, but what about glass, metal, different types of paper etc.
So a last skill would be to have an extensive knowledge of materials, their practicality and their associations.
Okay so as a result of this item of work I will :
03. Research that materials dude that did a talk a while ago and read his books/at least try to understand some of it.
04. sign up for a screenprinting induction so I can ask the technicians to show me how embossing works
05. finally finish reading the books on typography that I took out a while ago, because an important part of logo design is innovative use of type.
