curious question: why would want the grisha trilogy as a movie franchise but six of crows as a tv series?
a couple of reasons! grisha is more Epic in Scale in a way that feels appropriate to a movie and movie levels of money/promotion/etc. the aim is to save ravka, and functionally, the world. there are a lot of great character bits, but the plot is fairly uncomplicated, and the story is told entirely from Alina’s pov.
Alina is definitely a character that can tentpole a movie franchise for e, and visually i just feel like. holy shit all the light and dark shit flying around would be epic on the big screen. each movie would be a star wars level Event for me, you know? there’s just a pageantry and importance placed on movies that fits both the feel of grisha for me, and also the importance i place on the series haha.
whereas soc has SO MANY povs, and while obviously heist movies are a thing, soc is a fantasy heist. one movie per book would just not be enough to cover what is going on from all the perspectives and characters and character arcs, and splitting books almost never goes well when it comes to movies. a series would give all the characters the room to breathe that they need.
grisha doesn’t need the space a series would give it, because we’re focussing on alina. six of crows, we care about all of these people, and the shit they’re doing is set in a world that requires explanation and investigation, and is also...pretty small scale? LIKE it’s huge scale for 6 city gang members, and there are world shaking consequences to the idea of parem etc, but there’s a whole lot of set up that would be required to sort of...get that across in a way that’s accessible to people not familiar with the books. it’s difficult to do that with movies, i don’t necessarily have the attention span to think about the political ramifications of drugging science wizards in two hours or four hours that i do with 13 hours ( or more, depending on seasons)
whereas with grisha, you have two minutes with baby mal and alina in the beginning and bam, your world is set and ready to go.
I THINK THO like i definitely wouldn’t complain if we got a series for grisha a t a l l, i would take anything i could get. whereas with soc, i’d definitely want a series.
