More Qin Shen Shen moments translations (Part 16/?)
Li Keqin making my heart squeeze again. This is a very small bit at the end, about Qin Shen Shen, from his recent interview (came out 16/9/2021) with Tan Xin She:
Question : Regarding your several collaborations with Zhou Shen, the ones that really stunned many, really surprised many people... how did you two arrange so that you’d have this much chemistry?
Li Keqin: “...When we first paired up, during that show, when I first got to know that the one who would be with me is a person who sang THAT high, I once asked myself: ay, the difference between our pitches is that big, can it actually work well together? Whoa, turns out we worked that well together.
I also find it very mysterious. I find it very marvelous...It’s like we don’t need any-- as in, in reality too, it’s like we don’t need any of those rehearsals, or other things, we can directly...like you turn on the cameras and we can directly go.
Because our two voices are...His is, comparatively speaking, high and sharp. Mine is more of a baritone, lower and grave. So it just happened that we complement each other a bit with our strengths and weaknesses.
So sometimes...it’s still that sentence: Fate is a marvelous thing. Right in that moment, it helped you find a... a partner that you never imagined having.”
My two cents: It’s short, but I think it’s the first time he summarised it like this!
We know very little about how Zhou Shen felt about Qin Shen Shen, but it seems like Li Keqin often has no qualms expressing his appreciation for that collaboration and that he genuinely felt it. Coming from someone who’s had many, many collaborations before, including with big stars, and who’s sang for 30+ years, I feel it’s quite meaningful. As in, he has experience. He has things to compare it to.
