Since we were discussing things, Serres/Pertha

<3 - This might be able to work for Pertha, as her only qualifications for matesprit are 1. great in the sack 2. nice to her. She thinks Serres is funny and cool but I think she might have too much fun messing with her. I doubt Serres would find Pertha very appealing in this quadrant, considering Pertha’s penchant for pushing her buttons and going out of her way to annoy her. BUT if they could somehow find a way to make it work, I think they’d be really cute together? Pertha going shopping and getting Serres way-too-fancy clothes! Serres getting Pertha to actually buckle down and become the Best Fighter amongst the runetrolls! Cute girls smooching! IMAGINE IT. More realistically it’s a one-time fling apropos of nothing, rip.

<> - I…I have a harder time imagining this even than red romance. Pertha’s pale quadrant is filled via a miracle of coincidence, and she’s actually still pretty adamantly Against Quadrants. I’m not actually sure what Serres might need in this quadrant, but Pertha can at least offer somebody who is not afraid of her and not afraid to shoot totally straight with her. Serres might actually be the only person deadpan enough to get Pertha to stop dicking around for five minutes, so that’s certainly a plus for her. I can’t imagine these two snuggling very often but…I also think that, if they did, the two of them are badass enough together that they could do it on a pile of swords.

c3< - Meddling. Honestly at this point, I don’t think either one cares enough about the other to legitimately ‘meddle’ or try to affect change in the other’s life. They get a kick out of messing with each other, sure, but there’s very little warmth or concern behind it. This could change - especially on Pertha’s end, since she generally shows affection by pushing buttons and just being an annoyance. Serres might take a little while to get onto Pertha’s list of trustables, but once you’re there you’re basically set. Would Serres come to appreciate this nuisance in her life, managing her black flings? Do you even appreciate your auspistice??? What even is this quadrant??? Anyway given the two of them, this shit would probably flip black eventually.

<3< - The Dream Team. Pertha has numerous black flings, so does Serres, they like each other’s faces and hate each other’s everything else…it just makes sense! Would this be able to turn to something more? Possibly! It would take time. I can basically see this coming about because they just keep hooking up, on and off, over and over again and eventually they’re just like ‘shit fuck it let’s just make this official.’ I don’t even know what the hell would happen after that, these two are so constantly ready to fight that they may even need to get an auspistice at some point. But until that point, just constant raucous hatemaking, I’d imagine.

Poo and Botnik?

<3 - Ultimate Redbloods Ship. Vatrra is somebody who is very attractive to Botnik - dependable, hardworking, red-to-the-bone-doesn’t-take-shit-from-highbloods. He respects the work that she does, even though he thinks her methods are somewhat inefficient. Botnik also seems like somebody that Vatrra would get along well with, though they may butt heads occasionally (may be difficult to avoid, considering how stubborn the two of them are). Botnik, also, finds it hard to turn off the ‘full hemospectrum revolution’ switch, and I’m not sure how on board Vatrra would be with that - he’d also be disappointed that she can’t read, though he’d probably help her learn. The biggest issue with them might be that Botnik really does not like Jerath - or any blueblood, really - and he wouldn’t be thrilled that she has her other concupiscent quadrant filled by someone that he hates in a purely platonic sense. Jerath, likewise, would be pretty distraught to being inclades with Botnik, but these two boys have to Get Over Themselves anyway.

<> - I don’t think this would work very well. The two of them would probably encourage the worst traits in each other, and while I think there could be a high level of comfort there I don’t think that they really challenge one another enough to change for the better. They would just nod and say ‘right, redbloods are clearly the best, let’s be grumpy and also kill all the highbloods.’ Maybe not that extreme, but still.

c3< - ??? Sure? I honestly never thought about it but it could work. I can imagine them needling and meddling with each other, if only because they’re two of the only trolls who really ‘get’ one another’s mindset that I know of. The biggest issue that I see here is that there might not be enough antipathy in place, and whatever little there is will probably be based in some kind of professional rivalry. Is this really a problem though? I don’t know anything about ashenrom.

<3< - Like above, I can really only see this working in sort of a ‘rival smiths’ capacity. Vatrra and Botnik are alike in many ways, but they differ in a few crucial aspects. As an example: their work is very important to both of them, though Botnik prefers ease of manufacture, quantity, and efficiency, whereas Vatrra strives for perfection, quality, and artisanship. The issue here would be that they wouldn’t really be disgusted with each other, and the relationship might even flip ash or flushed eventually.

I also didn’t realize how little I knew about Izzy as a character so this is mostly just what Vide would do in each quadrant. Feel free to chime in!

♡: Vide would find Izzy pretty attractive, actually! Tall, pretty, good hair, etc. I just don’t think she’d find him flashy enough to be thoroughly interested – Vide’s taste in most quads runs to “tough and melodramatic.” That said, if they did get together, it would probably be a cute but very awkward relationship. I’m not sure how well Izzy would take Vide’s “oh we’re quadrants, let me just camp out on your lap” approach to things, and there would be a lot of one of them getting up the courage to make a move or something and the other one completely missing the cue. At least they could bond over gardening!

◇: It would not be reciprocal. I think Vide would take one look at Izzy and go this poor guy has so many Troubles, there is no way I’m loading him down with mine. She’d be very attentive and caring, like she usually is, but she would absolutely not mention her previous drug habit, pervasive fears, etc, unless he cornered her about it. She’d also get very much into the “have to FIX him: line of thought, which…. #yikes, Vide.

♧ - Possible! They’d probably both be really laid back about it, and have a really open relationship since they’d be auspisticising a lot of other folks. I don’t know a whole lot about how Izzy feels re: blackrom, but it’s possible they could kinda needle each other into trolling up and going after any black crush either might have. Are Izzy and Tink still, technically, dating? Because….

♤ - Izzy has a daywalker. In his basement. And he doesn’t want to kill it. Vide would be utterly appalled if she found out, and she’d likely try (unsuccessfully) to kill Tink before anyone could explain. There’s a chance she could take that, and the fact that Izzy has a lot of the habits she sees as weakness in herself, and apply it as no this guy is awful, i definitely need to steal his keys and put them in jello. Again, I’m not sure how Izzy does quads: how would he react to persistent bullying from a tiny jadeblood? Would he even see a viable kismate in her, given that their interests overlap in pretty much just gardening?

<3 - This is pretty much official at this point BUT I’m still gonna talk about it. Two clouns who are sick of being clouns, nice people, tol purples, it’s Good Stuff. It’s just too bad Artori has the fashion sense of a lame dad but I guess maybe that’s charming??? Ennkoh is such a romantic that I worry Artori would kind of let her down, but he’s actually quite thoughtful so I think it would work out for them. I’m imagining lots of nice snuggling and just being kind of quietly close to one another, so gentle for highbloods, who even gave them the right. The biggest hurdle for this quadrant is the fact that Artori is slated for a drone-culling, and he wouldn’t want to doom Ennkoh by getting concupiscent with her. That said, if there were a workaround…

(There is a workaround in SGRUB but now there’s gonna have to be something else but let’s cross that bridge when we get to it.)

<> - This I could see too, and Artori might even like it better since it would leave her red quadrant open forsomebody who isn’t cullbait. BUT at the end of the day, is leaving her without a moirail really much better, especially for someone in her precarious social/clouny situation? Disregarding that sad mess, I can’t imagine this being very different from their matespritship. They’re just quiet, snuggly trolls! I will say that there’s not really much that one can do for the other in terms of, like, pacification, since Artori is Always Pacified and Ennkoh is also pretty chill. They’d just chill together tbh, though Artori could help better than anyone if Ennkoh somehow went clown-crazy, as he’s immune to her voodoos.

c3< - They like each other too much for this to really be an option, though now I’m imagining it working just because they’re both too shy to admit their feelings to each other. Like, neither one of them will admit to flushed/pale feelings, so they just needle and bug each other occasionally and meddle. There’d be more warmth than I think there usually is in this quadrant, though I’m not really an expert. I feel like something would have to give in either case, though I can easily imagine them both being too flustered all the time to function in another quadrant, look at these nerds in denial.

<3< - Another that probably wouldn’t happen, unless one or the other went on a full clowny bender. Supposing Artori regained control of his clowny powers and clowny destiny after Ennkoh had left the order - I can see one or the other of them declaring lifelong enmity on the other. I’m not sure there would be enough attraction on Ennkoh’s part to make it work in a concupiscent way, though, considering she wants NOTHING to do with clowniness once she leaves. Ennkoh would have to be down to clown, or at least make an exception for Artori for this to work.

Sallies in, tell me about Mandra/Vide

<3 - Ew, what. I was about to say it would never work because Mandra is the Most Religious of Cloun and Vide is anti-religion, but then I remembered her actual matesprit is the most superstitious guy so…??? They would probably bond over plants and things, if you don’t think Vide would be thrilled living in a treehouse with lots of plants around then I don’t know what to tell you. I think the difference in caste would make this quadrant difficult for both of them.

<> - This I see even more difficulties with than the other red quadrant. Mandra doesn’t really have any interest in helping Vide, and he’d rather see her maudlin and unhappy than doing well, because he’s a sad clown and he loves sad shit and being awful. He’d encourage her worst habits because of ~drama~ and basically just be terrible. Vide, on the other hand, could try and address his issue of being a doormat with Asseer and his whole ‘love the sadness’ thing. Honestly she’s better off with Pertha, which isn’t saying much.

c3< - This could work? Sort of? Lot of needling, more appropriate meddling, lighthearted pushing of buttons and encouragement of bad habits (or even good habits???) It’d be better because it’s a more laissez-faire quadrant, I feel like if they got too involved they might somehow destroy each other.

<3< - And that brings us to spades. I think Mandra is mostly attracted to Vide because she reminds him of his old kismesis, and because he’s a genre-savvy drama dork. Since he deals with death and negative emotions, he’d see Vide’s healing powers as a natural counterpoint to his ‘theme’, as it were, and pursue her basically on those grounds alone (at least, initially). There’s a lot of things up in the air with this quadrant, and I’d have to see how it plays out to really be sure about anything. They’re both weird and Mandra in particular is pretty mysterious, even to me. Mandra would definitely try to get her to go to a carnival, and he’d absolutely try to get her in face paint.

I see this being similar to her matespritship with Jerath in a lot of ways. Very domestic, lots of nesting, fires blazing. Vide hates the cold, so she would probably stay indoors even more so than she does with Jerath - Brioni’s hive is snowbound almost all year. Please imagine rosy-cheeked cold Brioni coming into hive to get hug-tackled and smooched by tiny green matesprit though. It’s cute!

This is also cute! Lots of feelings jams, good-natured gossiping, and puddles b/w cuddle. I think Brioni could help Vide become more assertive in a more gentle way than Pertha is trying to do, and help her realize things that really matter. Vide would be attentive and serious and In This For The Long Haul, which is something Brioni needs. They should probably actually be pale instead of Big Bouquet Bitches, what the heck.

This could work, though Brioni would probably be playing more of a matchmaker than bulgeblocker. She would legitimately try to find Vide a good kismesis, but might grow exasperated when Vide’s weird standards aren’t met. At that point she’d adopt a more laissez-faire attitude about it: “When you know you’ll know.” Vide could try her very best to keep Brioni from killing Ilsana. Brioni doesn’t want to do it but it starting to realize she might have to.

The most good-natured kismessitude? Brioni would grow bored at the lack of a challenge after some time, but would have a hard time telling Vide. So they’d probably be stuck in a rut of passive-aggressive flower arrangements and messing with the furniture (I could have SWORN that coffee table was two feet to the left) but Brioni would slowly become more and more distant. Sorry Vide, learn to control the weather or something.

Weeds and Oslian

Don’t let their dicks touch! It will create a nerd singularity the likes of which hasn’t been seen before. Oslian is surprisingly domestic in the red quadrant, which Widsth would probably be okay with at first but might grate after a while. Bard’s gotta roam, and I’m sure he would get bored of Oslian after spending enough time with him. Until then, though, I imagine they would bicker a lot about dumb nerd shit - they share a lot of the same interests, though Oslian is far more logical a thinker and Weeds more emotional. I’d like to see them get together, for however long that would last.

Don’t take this the wrong way, but I really don’t see Widsth being patient or present enough to sort through Oslians issues. Oslian is an odd one in that he essentially moirails himself, to an extent, but also has a rivalry of sorts going on with himself. Wading through that quagmire is a Herculean task, and anyone in Oslian’s pale quadrant who isn’t up for the challenge isn’t likely to last long. Luckily all you really need is patience - Oslian isn’t going to be fixed right away, and he’ll be grateful if anyone does stick around for any length of time. Weeds though? Can he hack it?

Oslian would absolutely try to get Weeds to knock off the rampant pitch-flirting that he probably does all the goddamn time. This seems like a pretty realistic quadrant for them - the things that set them apart in the red quadrant would work to their advantage here. The bickering, the difference in perspective and lifestyle…they could actually do some good for each other here? Weeds trying to get Oslian out of the hive more and out of his own ass, Oslian trying to get Weeds to be rational for once in his life? Three-way

I dunno. This would be the nerdiest kismessitude ever. They would write essays to one another about how TOTALLY WRONG and SUPER DUMB the other one is, and then I guess occasionally meet up to smooch? I don’t think either one is present in the other one’s life to be an actual Genuine Archrival. But I like the idea of the authorial feud between these two and Jerath. This would be a step up from that, I guess, and bump Jerath out. Also I’m adding this to the c3< bit. Also please imagine them slap-fighting over the translation of some old piece of history.
