Gardens and Memorial Tomb of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Karachi, 1978.
Jinnah is considered the father of Pakistan a theocratic state now dominated by fanatical “fundamentalists.” Unlike them, Jinnah was a cosmopolitan Bombay lawyer who drank and smoked (and quite likely also ate pork). He was in effect a native speaker of English, one who knew little of his mother tongue of Gujarati or of the Urdu which became the national language of Pakistan. He was educated primarily in English and trained in law at Lincoln’s Inn in London.
Do as I say and not as I do!
