Happy Birthday, khspoetrywizz!
February 7 - "Thank god I'm wearing gloves, because you're too hot to handle" Skye/Natasha for @khspoetrywizz
Daisy jumped, annoyed with herself for doing it, but Natasha moved as quietly as a cat. The smirk that touched the other woman’s perfect lips briefly told her that Natasha rather enjoyed making people jump, too.
“They are new,” she responded to the question. “Fitz and Jemma keep tinkering with the design of my gauntlets. They call it improving on an experimental design, of course.”
“Of course.” Natasha leaned against the wall, somehow managing to look both sensually relaxed and ready to leap into action and strangle a man with her thighs. “Going out to try them out?”
“I was planning on it, yeah.”
“Mind if I come along and watch?”
Daisy blinked, surprised. She’d been astonished, when coming back into SHIELD, to find that Natasha had turned up at some point and been accepted back into the fold too. She’d been out on some secretive mission of her own for a little while but had turned up again a few days earlier.
“I s’pose, if you want.” She smiled. “I’m pretty sure that I needn’t tell you to stay out of the way?”
“I think I can take care of myself,” Natasha gave her a smile in return, and Daisy lifted her lanyard to the scan panel to open the door leading out of the base.
They found a quiet clearing in the woods for Daisy to test her gauntlets out, and Natasha sat down on a fallen tree trunk with every appearance of being completely comfortable. Taking a deep breath, Daisy focused, held her hands level to the ground and concentrated on delicately controlling her power to lift herself into a hover.
She’d intended to lift herself about four feet off the ground, to begin with.
It turned out that the improvements to her gauntlets were quite a lot more of a quantum leap than she’d expected, because she shot about thirty feet into the air, lost her focus with shock, and collided with a pine tree.
“Shit, Daisy, are you alright?”
“Ouch,” Daisy opened her eyes to see Natasha’s concerned face looking down at her. “Did I hit every branch on the way down?”
“Quite a lot of them, I think. I take it that wasn’t quite what you intended to do?”
Daisy grimaced, pushing herself to sit up. “Definitely not.”
“It was quite spectacular. I was very impressed.” Natasha’s lips twitched. “At least until you hit the tree.”
Daisy had to laugh as she got slowly to her feet. “Please tell me you didn’t have a camera? Witnesses are bad enough, photographic evidence would be much worse.”
“Afraid not.” Natasha smiled slowly at her. “I’ve got one in my room, though. Video camera. Set up to face the bed.”
“What, you haven’t hacked the feed yet? I’m disappointed in you.”
“Thank god I’m wearing gloves,” Daisy looked down at her gauntlets, “because you’re too hot to handle.”
“You could give it a go anyway. Maybe after you’ve taken those off, though,” Natasha gave the gauntlets a considering look, “I have no desire to make the close acquaintance of any pine trees!”
