A random chibi Chrome with differently sized ears oops haha, started just to try getting used to Krita. I did get most of the important features to work as I'm used to in CSP, but idk. It still feels so noticeably un-fluid at times 😅 maybe I can get used to it tho, over time.

I'm also still weirded out at how the opacity of many brushes works; having to press the pen much harder than what I'm strictly comfy with. My hand feels quite a bit more strained which I'm not a fan of. But maybe there's some more settings I could play with.

Also. The transform tool. feels incredibly weird too 🙈 I still haven't figured that out either.

Also let's pretend I didn't paint this on fkn A1 size just for shits and giggles XD

Omg you don't believe how much I've noodled around on this in the past days, it was so frustrating XD Which is why I'm so happy that I finally found a direction for his coat that I'm happy with!

Also I couldn't remember if I'd written down which of the fluffy qualats has which coat genes, but I've decided now that Ealann has the Longhair genes lh, while Chamon has the mane genes li (and I had to make a little messy chart for comparison because they can look a bit similar overall) and Marin of course has both of them. I really need to include that in their refs for easier... future reference 🥴

This is the current status of Ealann. He also now has the beginnings of feetses! Although I'm not so sure I'm happy with how they look. Will likely tweak a lot still :)

Continued this today...

Instead of just focusing on one qualat at a time I thought a better approach would be to do the rough underpainting of each first, and add all the little details later on top. Which is why many things in here are just placeholders currently XD and I'm a bit concerned that Dara will stick out amongst the others, so I mayyyyy have to redo at least parts of her.

... maybe just look at their fantastic tails for now? Those look pretty good already 🤣👌

Speaking of placeholders, Chamon is still missing all of his colors and markings. Will add them once I'm happy with his base :D

Also Ealann's coat is pretty much inspired by Sammy. And I love his kinda grumpy expression lol. I'll have to figure out if he has back markings or not... it's not visible in his ref and I never even once drew him again after that ahahaha.

As of right now, I am very excited about the progress on this after all this time ✨

Aaaand more progress. Yea I did spend a couple of hours today, cough cough. A normal amount (yeah sure). I probably should do something else this evening ^^;

Also for your viewing pleasure I included yesterday's closeup of Ealann at near original size, even if it has the still rough shadow layer on. It's a screenshot, so if it fits your phone dimensions feel free to use it as a background image or something (or nag at me if you'd prefer to look at the finished thing). Personally, these little things are what makes life so worth it for me :D

Started working on the qualats so I can figure out the exact placement of the background shadows later. I want this to be pretty detailed so the whole thing is going to take a gooooood while to get completed. This is just the very start of the underpainting.

Also I'm REALLY out of practice with painting from memory/ making things up in a realistic style so it's a challenge to get back into it 😂 but I decided to start with Dara because her pose is easy and her coat and coloration is very typical for a qualat, which makes her the ideal starting point for all of this. Very excited about this painting!!

More progress! Originally I had been thinking about making the fur really really detailed, like in the right pic... but idk if I like that look XD and it's super hard on my arm, too. Maybe I'll go back to the left version and continue that for now. Maybe add more details back in way later on so I can be more deliberate with it? We'll see! :D
