I've seen this post making rounds, so I wanted to add one more thing.
UPDATE: very nice wonderful person reminded me it says race h2h and not quali. oops. however i'm still leaving this down here for a) sources, and b) well they still raced against each other. so Oscar's race h2h is still against Lando, and lance's is still against all of his teammates :)
Oscar's H2H is uniquely against Lando. Lando is a great qualifier, and we know this. I love Lando, he's a World Champion, but at the same time, he's a World Champion, as in, one. I love him (and believe in B2B of course). Not to mention that Oscar's car has been substantially better over the 3-4 years. Lando's a world Champion and I love him for it, but also, previously to 2025, he was just a race winner.
Meanwhile, who has Lance qualified against? Felipe Massa (well known driver, nearly won the WDC in 2008), Sergey Sirotkin, Sergio Pérez (multi-race winner, 2nd in the WDC in 2023), Sebastian Vettel (4-time WDC, etc), and Fernando Alonso (2-time WDC, etc). Not to mention that Lance is a shit qualifier, and there are articles in 2018 saying that once he figures out his qualifying he'll do great since he's got the race pace.
In 2018, Sirotkin did outqualify Lance, but they had the closest gap between teammates in the whole year, just +0.066 in terms of pace to Sergey. Sirotkin outqualified Lance 12-8. (source) <- also this shows just how dominant Fernando is. He outqualified Vandoorne 21-0 that year. (Fernando's a very very good qualifier, too. <3)
Not to mention that Lance was the 2nd-youngest driver ever to participate in a race (18y, 4m, 26d). That's a huge factor, just like Max had, too. Oscar is 58th on the list. (source).
All of this makes it so much worse for Oscar. Lando's hard to qualify against - and I love it when he wins the h2h, obviously <3 - but lance is also qualifying against much different people.
