Young God
GUO JUNCHEN (郭俊辰) as Quan Rumu
Sword and Beloved 天地剑心 (2025)
I actually really enjoyed Fugui's development. He started out as this very silent, lonely soldier who didn't talk much, but the more we got to know him through his interactions with Qingtong, he seems very kind and soft-spoken. There's an earnest element to his character that I adore. But then we see him interact with Rumu and we find that in private, there's a mischievous aspect to his character! A part of him that's a little bit sarcastic, playful, even, that's been buried underneath all that Soldier training. He's not like outwardly sarcastic, but he says fantastic one-liners and enjoys it when others aren't treating him like an idea and more like a person, allowing themselves to be open will be rewarded with him opening up. Honestly, I love the very gentle domestic arc with Qingtong where Fugui really gets time to study the layers in his own character, becomes the sincerest version of himself that he tries to be. I love that Qingtong's genuine attitude feels like it encouraged him to be the same. Fugui endures so much.
I really liked that when we got to the desert arc, Fugui, it turned out, has developed an attitude, lmao. He's more sarcastic, more openly playful, not just to Rumu, but to those around him! It's sort if satisfying to see him go from someone who always feels the need to hide his struggles to someone more open. They don't know who he was, so he feels no pressure to uphold some sort of persona. But at the same time, there's an aspect to his deadpan attitude that also feels like a display– not quite Fugui, but a sheer blanket to cover and protect his more vulnerable heart. From one end of his spectrum to the other, like a gentle coping mechanism while he tries to dissect and find himself, address everything he's been through. He still feels a little lonely at times, but he doesn't curl into himself as severely anymore.
I think my favorite aspect of Wangquan Fugui, is, despite everything, he's always comes across as kind. He's always trying to be honest, ever so self-introspective, and genuinely kind. He endures it all, still. And in all his interactions, he's always genuine and always trying to find himself. Even if he's in pain, he would rather live without spending his time being angry or hateful– I think to him, that is the most unbearable, miserable way to live.
