Honestly chidis relationship with eleanor just comes off the back of his indecisiveness. He didn't know how to make a relationship work on earth with philosophy and books and theory but without having to think about whether or not he should like his soulmate he's stuck with them regardless so he may as well be happy with the idea that he's never gonna be alone again, because she was the first one and a constant through all the reboots

And they only started talking about their "feeling for eachother" AFTER they found out they slept together in one of the reboots, not to mention that he didn't actually see her that way until he found out

The memories are in chronological order so ofc he would think that being in something that doesn't make him happy because he doesn't wanna let other people down
