Black Keys Under Blankets of White || Drabble || Sebastian and Jac
Jac let snow collect in her hair as she made her way towards the more abandoned part of the city. Her footprints were light, barely visible as the clean snow hit the ground at an alarming rate. If the hunter wasn't careful, she'd be stuck down here for longer than she had planned.
Once within walking distance of her destination, she picked up her pace, almost losing her footing more than once as she ran towards a specific building. She'd been planning this for a while, since she'd seen a photo somewhere in Sebastian's flat. (Yes she had been snooping, no she wouldn't tell him that, until after he'd seen what she got for him.)
She slipped inside a building that looked almost as though it could fall apart at any moment after picking one of the door's locks. The inside looked no better than that of the outside to the normal eye, but Jac had been working on something. She had a plan and was going to succeed. The floor was clean of dust and the staircase banisters were covered in tinsel, in true Christmas spirit of course.
She laughed cheerily, running her fingers over her handiwork before running out the door, making sure to lock the door behind her. She followed her previous tracks past old abandoned hotels, past the newest parts of the city, the cafes and local hang outs for those that came from money. Past the bars and the homes to a flat she'd come to break into more than once.
She waited outside of the door, drying her hair of snow and letting the water drip anywhere but down her back, as that would be too much of a give away.
Jac knocked softly on the door, waiting for Sebastian to show up in front of her. As she suspected, he opened the door with a less than pleased look falling over his features. The look was understandable, it was late and she was far from his favourite person, but the nineteen year old girl had hope that this would change his mind.
"Put on a shirt," she said quickly, trying not to blush at his physique. "We have somewhere to go."
He looked at her as if she were insane, icy blue eyes trying to gauge what she could possibly want. Leaving seemed like an impossible thought, but one time couldn't honestly be that disastrous.
"Two minutes," he mumbled, meeting her eyes. "You. Stay."
As the door closed, she called out, "Not a dog!"
Her arms crossed over her chest, and her fingers dug harshly into her collarbone, dispelling the thoughts that Sebastian may have left her out here alone. She waited, pacing only slightly, as a clock ticked in her head, counting out every second exactly, getting to three minutes before the door finally opened.
"You're late," her voice was almost harsh as she spoke. "You said two minutes, it was three."
"You're insane, Spunky." He held out a jacket, pushing it on her shoulders before stepping back. "You looked cold, kid, don't question it."
She pulled the jacket over her, grimacing, not liking the idea of charity, but taking it, as she had something to offer in return.
"Fine, but you've gotta come with me," her face lit up like a child's, and in that moment, she didn't look like the girl who was trying to get him in her bed. Instead she looked like an over excited seven year old.
"I'm coming, I'm coming." He'd entertain her for now, if it kept her looking like that.
Pressing her hands into the pockets of the jacket, she started to walk, making it only a few paces before Sebastian was matching her steps.
The air had cooled some since her last trip, but it made her smile. The cold tinted her skin pink, and made the air more refreshing to take in. The snow collected in her hair, turning the blonde white. Jac didn't care though, as she turned to the older man.
"You should have worn a hat..."
"Says the kid who didn't even have a coat."
"Shut up," she laughed, hunching her shoulders as she led him to the abandoned building. "Stop here, and close your eyes."
He stared at her, an eyebrow raising. The hunter met his gaze, staring defiantly.
"Not going to happen," he finally said.
"Then turn around and stay here until I come back. That's the only other option."
With out saying another word, Jac pulled the key from her pocket and unlocked the door, slipping inside. The door quietly clicked behind her, and she set to work fixing a few little things. The tree skirt, the wiring she had to rig up herself, the bench.
It all had to be perfect.
Satisfied with her work, she opened the door and beckoned Sebastian in, grinning from ear to ear as she bounced on her toes.
"So," Jac mumbled as Sebastian entered the building, "I've heard a place or two you've wanted a piano, and a real tree, and I wanted to thank you for putting up with me, even though I snoop through your things, and I flirt continuously even though you don't even think that way. And I wanted to make you smile." She walked to the wall nearest them. "I did what I could, they piano works. She's even tuned."
Jac gestured at a tree, covered in a mismatched array of colored lights, then at a grand piano in the corner opposite. The hunter led the ex colonel to the bench without touching him.
"This was an abandoned hotel, and now its yours." The key was placed on the piano. "I know its not quite what you wanted but I tried.
He looked at her in a daze for a moment before smiling. He turned to the keys, smile widening.
"Play for me? For Christmas?"
